Why does everyone talk about the force like it's some major religion that a majority of people belong to like christianity or something?

Basically the Force is the main religion but Jedi(/sith) were just a small cult/religious order that most people didn't think existed or that they were basically just fakes

At what point did he ever say the Jedi never existed? Not one officer there said the Jedi did not exist. They called the Force an ancient religion which... it is. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism are considered "ancient".

Notice none of the officers were surprised Vader was using the Force. Even Tarkin refers to Anakin as a Jedi. They weren't getting results which was making them angry with Vader.

Why wouldn't it. 99% of that religion's members got BTFO in that period. Nobody would care for the high and mighty jedi, considering they killed and didn´t care for the common people of the galaxy

It's primarily people in the Empire that claim the Jedi and Force are long forgotten or might not have even existed. People in the Rebellion generally are the opposite, at least when it comes to a faith in the Force.

Funny that the rebels are the ones that were in positions of power and got stripped of their rights because of ther corruption and degeneracy.
Basically fighting to regain their advantages they once had over the general populace

The galaxy as a whole probably doesn't give a fuck and the battles between the Empire and Rebels are so far removed form them that it doesn't matter.

Think about it. You have thousands of systems probably untouched by the Empire or Rebels.

I'm not pointing this out to defend Lucas and writers. It's just the principle of the galaxy being so big in general that even thinking about an actual Galactic Republic/Empire is silly to begin with. They might own 10 solar systems. Everything else is smuggler offworlds not known of.

The Jedi and Sith are religions based on the study/worship of the force.

They are very big/well known and certainly the existence of the force is known to almost everyone.
