China or Japan

Which one do you think is more cultured?

Japan without question. Chinese culture was systematically destroyed by Mao. Japan only had a few cities destroyed.

Well, China is still welcoming farmers into the middle class, so they are not all educated, and they had the cultural revolution thing destroying part of their story and customs that had been carried for thousands of years.
On the other hand, most japs are well educated and already born into the middle class, not to mention that they export their culture through anime and manga to the entire world, so i don't think it's even comparable. Japan is by far more cultured

In Japan, more than 200 cities became burnt fields by the air raid of the US military, and a lot of national treasure class buildings disappeared.

China in a decade
Japan right now

Both are pretty much chinks to be fair though. Japan got pulverized and AMERICAd while China got MAOd. Japan recovered a lot faster, but in a decade the sheer population size of China will begin to culturally outweigh Japan again.

But the memory and record lived on. The cultural revolution in China sought to destroy and leave it behind.

This, and I say this as overseas Chinese. If you ever want to see real Chinese culture (artifacts, relics, architecture, that is) visit Taiwan. That being said, mainland China has developed its own ethos of sorts and it's definitely worth experiencing.
