there is no competition between the genres because each one has good artists and shit artist, why not just dabble alittle in each genre, you'll never really know what you like if you don't explore. for a metalhead I would show him something similar to mf doom, nas, or someone equally lyrical and poetic. for a rap lover I would probably show him a lot because metal has so many sub genres but metal/core/prog/math/atmo/ect. all have gold mine bands in them. its just ignorant to say a genre is better than another because you are setting up limitations for yourself.
