The first act of Episode VIII is an attack on Leia which leaves her unconscious and Poe has to take over the Resistance as a leader. But in the original idea Rey was still able to communicate with her through force.

If Fisher ends up in coma or dies, obviously they're going to switch up the script a bit, they're kind of lucky because they already have filmed scenes that could as well end with Leia dying.

Assuming Fisher dies, with any luck she's already getting killed off in ep VIII and getting the poignant exit she deserves.

I really hope they weren't planning on killing Luke off and making Leia the one who kicks ass in episode IX.
