these movies and up until the late 80s were when there were actual artists making movies, effects had to be practical, you had to shoot on location for the most part etc, films are less work which makes them more shitty now

I'd say it's a tie between the 50s and 70s. The 50s perfected the technique, they reached the heights of classical cinema. The 70s incorporated the experimentation from the 60s with the learned techniques from the classics, which is why sl many great films were created as well.

mid 1960s and earlier is what I would consider "classic," but I don't think it has anything to do with a person's age. I've seriously met people in their fifties who think anything from before the 70s is too old and not worth watching, and I've met people in their twenties who love golden age movies
