the hypercomplexity of iglooghost's music only goes to show how short our musical attention spans are in 2018. the extremely fast and meticulous rhythms found in his music are like porn or fast food for the musical centre of the brain, appealing only to our most immediate and want-it-right-now musical cravings. the sad part is that even Iglooghost's music is a flash in the pan, and there will be absolutely nothing after it that can satisfy our cravings for ultra-detailed electronic hype music after this.
Iglooghost shows that we are in musical crisis
nice generalization, retard
>there will be absolutely nothing after it that can satisfy our cravings for ultra-detailed electronic hype music after this
Retards probably said this about Kraftwerk in the 70's or Drum n Bass in the 90's.
People have made way more complex stuff than this character already
My main issue with this album was that there were so few memorable moments. Everything was constantly at 100% with tons of little synth lines and drum patterns zipping around, yet after the album was over nothing really stood out to me. I struggled to even differentiate most of the tracks from each other. I wasn't able to be like "Oh yeah, that's the one that goes dun dun de dun dun da", because they all go "nxncjrvwksjalgjgwkfigtrvwjuufbmvnbvmnbmv".
>we are in musical crisis
yeah in the sense that pale imitations of 2005 breakcore are seen as original and forward-thinking
The second last track is great and memorable
yeah this was my reaction too
there were a few cool moments, but having to wade through everything else to get to them feels kind of silly when you think about it
honestly though i think this is just a problem that befalls all maximalism
you realise you say this at the same time as genres like drone ambient are increasing in exposure and popularity too, right? this has nothing to do with "musical attention span" (it's debatable whether that's even a desirable trait), but rather the general trend of music over time to push all its parameters to the absolute limit, be it volume, lyrical content, speed, complexity, etc.
i could just as easily say that the hypercomplexity of iglooghost's music represents a positive shift in that we are unshackling ourself from the necessity of musical repetition, and embracing different challenges in our music listening
maximalism like this doesn't signify a zeitgeist of instant gratification simply because maximalism like this is hookless; it's fast-paced and full to the brim yet not in any way an easy fix
