It really is. It is not a typical "prequel", but it gave alien fans a great introduction to the alien universe by giving us a closer look at the space jockeys and weyland yutani and thus laying the groundwork for more "alien-like" prequels to come.

I'm a huge Alien fan. Aliens was quite good. Alien 3 was acceptable. Resurrection was horrible.

Ridley has fucked up Prometheus. He wanted it to be different but then again he wanted a little Alien in it. It doesn't explain itself and characters act illogically and are totally forgettable except for David.

It's good he's coming to the roots of horror, but I expect Covenant to try to redefine original Alien. And it's bad. People will compare it and it won't live up.

I can already tell from the trailer that characters won't be as distinct as Nostromo's crew. The music was horrible, why not go with some great ambient? It's a fucking horror.
