Not all musicians are like this, but a lot of the ones I've encountered working at a recording studio devote so much time to their own music that they have pretty entry level tastes in other music. And, generally, when they're not listening to or making their own music, they're listening to music within their genre, so it makes sense that Grimes has hot opinions on pop stars but listens to Greatest Hits albums of industrial bands.
