When did you realise rym is shit?

When did you realise rym is shit?
For me it's when i checked the top rap albums
Meme grips on the 21st place?
Ahead of 'mm...food', 'Reasonable Doubt', 'Black of both sides'?
What the fuck

rym is amazing for finding recs, maybe the best website there is. I worship rym. Yeah sorry your favorite albums are on the SECONDDDDD PAGEEE of that list, but seriously if you hate rym becsuse of that, you're probably not even using it

It's great if you're not looking for shit music like rap

>"wahhh why is this memerap i dislike held in higher regard than this memerap i do like wahhhh"

This
Also get over your contrarianism, The Money Store is a solid record

rym is basically for lazy drones that can't explore music without a nifty chart to guide them and are too braindead to dig through discogs

The genre tags on RYM are infinitely more useful (and more accurate) than those on Discogs

yeah bruv rival dealer is a great atmospheric drum and bass record

RYM is good if you only pay attention to individual reviewers or users whose tastes mirror yours.

Never pay attention to any of the aggregate rankings or lists.

Not to mention it's utter shit for anything that isn't based on albums.

This.

summed it up well

the popular records are liked sure, not always the most groundbreaking, but the safe experimentation - you know, the kind rym users will like the most (slightly above academic average intelligence / below average social intelligence 19yo males).

use it as a tool.
use to discover new artists.
ignore almost anyone that writes anything.
don't expect anyone to tell you what to like if you want anything worthwhile. you have to try.

>ignore almost anyone that writes anything
It's literally the opposite.

who's your favorite user? mine is "Tibul"...his taste literally made me more open minded, probably the most objective taste I've ever seen. And his lists, reviews, and even his bio are fucking crazy.

>5 stars on dr bombay's rice & curry

the fuck

When did rym top charts turn from dad rock and metal to Sup Forumscore?

super helpful tags my dude

What else would you expect from the site that has OK Computer as #1 of all time?

so you're saying read the garbage that these meme reviewer wannabes say and take it seriously

u new?

is that supposed to be innacurate

That's a secondary genre tag you mong

yeah but you listen to ween, so you should probably just kill yourself.

sorry to be so brutal, but you're a deplorable people, with literally no hope in life.

So you're saying obfuscated hoarders like AntiWarhol and his plethora of clones are more preferable to people like JTG?

The point is that it's not specific whatsoever

This, OP is a whiny bitch.

But there's another flaw - why do genre tags differ across releases?
Most of the releases carry no more information than the master page, while one of the vinyl releases claims to be "avantgarde" and "prog rock", both of which are inaccurate

more people tend to prefer specific version most likely

rym started as a rock-based copy of the bleeps-based discogs fyi

I mean, that's fair
I understand that Discogs has a ton of value, I just much prefer navigating RYM
For example, RYM is especially useful when you're browsing around thrift stores and you see an obscure CD that you think is interesting but you're not keen on spending a couple bucks on something you haven't heard
RYM averages are a decent way of gauging whether or not you'll be disappointed

who is JTG

But mm food is fucking garbage

discogs is literally a digital thrift store except with a youtube sample on one of it's corners

rateyourmusic.com/~jazzthreadguy

music taste has nothing to do with intelligence tho

...

>discogs is literally a digital thrift store except with a youtube sample on one of it's corners
And shipping charges

it's true

Death Grips is good.
You have bad taste.
