During World War II, the IAF played an instrumental role in blocking the advance of the Japanese army in Burma, where its first air strike was on the Japanese military base in Arakan. It also carried out strike missions against the Japanese airbases at Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in northern Thailand.
The IAF was mainly involved in Strike, Close Air Support, Aerial reconnaissance, Bomber Escort and Pathfinding missions for RAF and USAAF Heavy bombers. RAF Pilots were embedded in IAF units and vice versa to gain combat experience. IAF pilots participated in air operations in Europe as part of the RAF.
During the war, the IAF went through a phase of steady expansion. New aircraft, including the U.S. built Vultee Vengeance, Douglas DC-3 and the British Hawker Hurricane, Supermarine Spitfire and Westland Lysander, were added to its fleet.
Subhas Chandra Bose sent Indian National Army youth cadets to Japan to train as pilots. They went on to attend the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force Academy in 1944
In recognition of the services rendered by the IAF, King George VI conferred the prefix "Royal" in 1945. Thereafter the IAF was referred to as Royal Indian Air Force.
Boeing F4B piece of shit.
A lot of different ones, but I think this is the most widely produced and recognized.
Flown by many of our over 2500 Fighter Aces it is said to be the aircraft type used to score more aerial victories than any other.
There were quite a few.

I love the variety of camo patterns bf 109s and fw 190s had.

>when Australia actually had a decent fleet of different aircraft that could all fly and not remain grounded for years
spitfires and some russian planes we were given, also stolen german planes
im talking about the Partisans not sure about the Ustasas

Looks funky, one wing is longer than the other. The Fiat CR.42 was also very cool.
Probably spitfires, Hurrricanes and Lancasters.

How can others even compete?
this one is exposed in the museum RAF Hendon, shame that i have to go, otherwise i would have kept posting planes

fucking battlefield 1942 secret weapons of ww2
nostalgia is hitting hard

yeah i'm not serious but the german airforce was one of the best in the world so it's not a surprise. the second plane was suppposedly not that bad though and did quite well against the german fighters
Where prototypes of those ever built?
Dat Air battle Highscore
if i remember correctly the second one was mostly used in scouting missions and not full out battles but yeah the germans had some nasty fighters
not of that one no
but
yes but they were too late and the soviets were pushing hard so they had no time to complete them
Mostly Gustavs.
...
god damn. How did you lose the battle of britain?
no, they had first "prototype tests" in a windtunnel in 1944 but never got further.
...
>"The Germans largely relied on medium bombers that were all conceived of, and developed just before the war began, with the idea being that bombers like the JU-88 and HE-111 could be fast enough to avoid interception from the contemporary opposing fighters"
I can imagine that the brits also had the bonus of ground anti air weaponry which are extremely helpful for defense (duh). After all, we went to their island and had to get boots on the ground.
These are the 3 biplanes that solely protected Malta from the nazi invasion
contribooting
Most of those kills are from seal clubbing the soviet air force.
if you guys instead of using bombers used paratroopers you would take that island in a matter of weeks
fighter planes didn't have enough range to do much over britain
One of the major factors that allowed us to defend agaisnt the italians
forgot pic
Quit bombing the airfields, start bombing the cities.(London, etc) Fucking Goering.
sexyness incoming
>Greek airplane
>Painted to look like a French flag
???
actually "we" just focused on the wrong kind of bombers. Churchill knew from WW1 that long range heavy bombers would be crucial and britain started to focus on these, first plans made in 1934 already. That´s why they could fly to germany and bomb cities (only at night though, wouldn´t get through anti-air defence during day time).
Germany on the other hand first focused more on dive bombers for precision to actually minimize casualties.. Churchill feared from the beginning that germany would do the same shit the brits are trying, big fat long range bombers coming at night. He knew that this would fuck britain, especially because it would have been the first time their civilian population would get bombed to shit.
easy. we make them think they are fighting the french. When they think we have surrendered and come forward expecting men with their hands up, we shoot them all.
It's really sophisticated if you think about it.
Hitler did the dumb. Instead of Bombing RAF airfields until they could no more fly. He threw into a fit when the RAF did an (ineffective) Revenge bombing run on a major german city.
Hitler told them to target London and other population centers. Supposedly the RAF would of lasted only a few more weeks under the constant bombing the Germans were hammering them with. Couldn't replace planes or pilots fast enough.
more sexyness
Republic P-47

Armament: 4 x .50 cal machine guns
One tough son of a bitch, also nicknamed "The Jug" and the "Thunderbolt," it was pretty much a tank in the sky. It was also the pre-cursor to the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
But the Fokkers, especially the G1 were considered way ahead of their time. Ad remember, the German air battles of ww1 were mostly flown in Dutch planes. The Red Baron used a Fokker DR-1
RAF was pretty close to its breaking point when the fat fuck Göring decided that terror bombing was smarter than strategic bombing
>Revenge bombing
British bombers to german cities May 12th 1940, 2 days after churchill elected. First german bombers to britain around september 1940 after berlin already got 6 bombing runs together with many other german cities.
Your bombers needed to fly at night, so you couldn´t see what you hit and directly produced heavy civilian casualties.
Glorious Bf 109 (E-4? I think)
...
these 2 are the sexiest you got dont bother posting more
Top kek
Ah well my bad. I could of sworn it was a revenge attack. More ya know. Still, other point is valid. Hitler did the dumb with stopping the bombing runs on the RAF air fields.
Anthony Fokker's Dr.I is as much of a dutch plane as Edgar Schmüd's P-51 Mustang is a german plane
>tfw no bf
Everyone elses.
The u.s wouldnt give us superchargers until they realised the japanese were serious
That is genius. Alexander the Great would be proud of you.

Was this carved from wood?
>Germans never flew this aesthetic piece of Aluminium
Can they do anything right
dafuq is that?
Good luck finding a model kit with appropriate swastika decals.
Also various hand-me-downs from USA, UK, France and Italy like the Brewster Buffalo, Gloster Gladiator, Fiat G.50 and Morane-Saulnier M.S.406.
The French Morane-Saulniers were so underpowered that we pulled the engines out and replaced them with salvaged soviet engines (en.wikipedia.org
Fieseler Fi 167
German designed, it actually was credited with shooting down a p51.

>what is guernica
CA-12
Basically a Beaufort engine mated to a fighter frame because we were already producing them, the 20mm Hispano Cannons were reversed engineered from a singe example bought back from Europe, apparently had good handling in flight.
Needs more boat-planes.
