i've been thinking of it

>who else is a fucking retarded weeaboo
not me, anonfag. control your penis, you retard.

just move to japan you faggot

>Japan
>not a country of the "West"

>it's another weeaboo realizes his fantasyland doesn't exist and it's just people waking up and going to work and going to bed like the rest of us episode

this. not to mention they are only talking about the music, which is entirely comprised of average ripoffs of Western pop, rock, punk etc.

if anything, japan is just a more hardcore version of western society with a fake facade of anime and cutesie girls. People are almost literally working themselves to death at a place they probably hate. And you can't show any signs of depression cause that's seen as unpure in the family. So then you get places like that suicide forest, where people come to commit suicide quietly.

> All I know about Japan I learned from memes and clichés

well not memes, but from the docus I've seen it's not the best place in the world. But then again what do we classify as 'good'. cause that dream image of the balanced society without flaws doesn't exist

my favourite episode

Western music of the past
>Blues
>Jazz
>70ies Rock
>New Wave

Western music now
>Hip Hop
>Soy Folk
>Transexual pop (Hypnagogic pop)
>Vaporwave
>Lofi Hip hop

>People are almost literally working themselves to death
lol have you been to South Korea?

because anime is so much more elucidating?right, my 14 year old friend?

Nah, Germany and Italy still have a lot of my favorite artists.
But yeah Japan is top tier.
Mariya is just alright though.

>stopped listening to Western music and started listening to a cheap Eastern copy of Western music
if you wanted to get into japanese folk music, that's a different story. but there's no reason to listen to this fake crap when you can check your mom's CD collection for the real thing

this. city pop is just western adult contemporary fetishized by lame weaboos for being japanese.

nailed it

KPOP exists. don't make it sound like the rest of the world is any better.

lmao fucking roasted

>Transpop
Kek

>cheap
Japanese productions aren't cheap.

/thread

hikikomori being an often used term in japan is evidence enough. They had to invent a word for it, so it must be quite common then

do you know what "cheap" even means?

I assume you meant low-quality, sketchy, badly done. But Japanese producers aren't known for their low, cheap productions. Quite the opposite.
If we were talking about Kpop, then yeah. That's just cheap.

except for the fact that they make a word for eveything desu

Ancient greeks also had a word for it: Agoraphobia

I wasn't that user, but the phrase wasn't merely "cheap", but "cheap copy". there's a difference.

I once got into British music so bad I started using Chav slang. I started with early bass music and grime.

But her music is heavily inspired by 80s pop

implying that isn't a neologism

Yeah, Kpop is a cheap copy of western modern pop music.
Japanese music has always been characterized for being high-quality, even if it's a "copy".
Pro tip: there is no original music anymore, everything is a copy of something else that came before.

that's a good song desu

>everything is a copy of something else that came before.
maybe stop listening to Japanese music

her music IS 80's pop

i'm doing some hikikomori at this very moment, but it doesn't even feel bad. I just wanna work on some art and be left alone

This is the only song called Agoraphobia I know
youtube.com/watch?v=Om4HDen5lNs

youtube.com/watch?v=QNO_D6TikFI

go fuck yourself. this music is far superior and better written than the 70s radio amerishit garbage

I'm I listen to more western music than japanese, although to be honest, I don't really care where the music comes from as long as it's good.
Maybe stop being a shitposter that doesn't really know mucha bout japanese music. If you want to hate on weebs, be my guest, but don't assume everyone who appreciates good japanese music is a "weeb" by default. I know your gen Z meme-infested brain might not be able to process this line of thought, but try.

no, its a pale imitation

>don't assume everyone who appreciates good japanese music is a "weeb" by default
on fucking Sup Forums? almost all are, my dude.

You'll grow up eventually. Well, if you don't die first.

spotted the weeaboo

you're so fucking retarded and americentric it's not even funny. no, it's far better. i've heard both, i much prefer city pop. better instrumentation, production, and more emotion and feeling. the american shit is just mass produced plastic garbage. keep listening to your fleetwood mac and hall and oats you boring piece of trash

I'm more of a germanboo, actually.

...

i got up to enka/yen tier

arin showing you her favorite jazz vinyls

if you're not at least susumu hirasawa tier you dont belong on Sup Forums

Eh, you're giving Sup Forums too much credit.

>he still hasn't grown out of his anti-warhol phase

embarrassing

>aghh me white american like listen to asian music

Would it be OK if he was black?

do you feel a rush of euphoria every time you look at an asian person?

citypop is for kids who "grew out" of vaporwave

>itt: "T-T-TENNO HEIKA.. B-B-B-AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!"

How do I stop feeling like jap music is just a cheap imitation of western music even when I like it?

I feel sorry for the few dudes who actually like city pop (or just 80s Jpop in general) since before all this vaporwave meme thing.

no
how about you go to Sup Forums and circlejerk over the white race and how great murica is

"jap music" as in anything japanese?
Maybe listen to Ryuichi Sakamoto's more recent solo works.
Over the years he moved from his techno pop/art pop roots and went toward more experimental and avant-garde projects.
But I mean even YMO can be considered very original and not a copy of western music, Kraftwerk were doing their own thing, but YMO had a more upbeat, melodic sound, and most of the times they're using minor scales that are more common in asian music than in western music.
In fact, even today, if you listen to your average idol Jpop shit, it's still distinctly different from the average western music in terms of composition. People often say "this sounds like anime opening music", and yeah, it's because there's certain chord progressions that are more common in japanese music.
What are your favorite japanese artists? Maybe I can recommend some stuff to you based on that.

you don't

Why do you hate your country and people? Why do you idolize a foreign culture that was your enemy not even 80 years ago?

I wonder what Japanese music would sound like if America didn't occupy after WW2.

>more emotion and feeling
you only feel this way because you can't understand what they're saying

america is a fucking shithole and i hate living here and will move to europe after i graduate uni
i dont give a shit about the ethnicity of a singer as long as i like the music. i think city pop sounds better than western adult contemporary soft rock or many 80s western music. so what?

i dont give a fuck if america fought japan in wwii
i dont give a fuck about "my race" or "my people" because it's not the 18th century
japanese media is more entertaining than american mass media

Maybe there would be less rockabilly bands that were popular in Japan.
But other than that, Japan has always been more influenced by Europe than America. If anything, Latin America influenced Japan more musically than North America. Dem japanese love some tango and bossa nova.

>Why do you hate your country

Oh jesus where do I fucking start...

OP, if you're not baiting/false flagging, just stop.
Nobody cares about your crusade against western media.
Japanese music is great, but try to listen to to something else besides Mariya and Tatsuro.

yeah japan had a big boner for france and french culture. a lot of the idol music is basically chanson, their rock was mostly beatles/british influenced, etc

i'm just telling that nationalist Sup Forumstard off because he thinks liking japanese music is bad because i'm a white man and not listening to aryan imperial marches or fleetwood mac or whatever and he keeps trying to assert western music is automatically better.

and i've listened to plenty of japanese bands.

A lot of it is derivative crap but much of it isn't. A lot of the melodic metal stuff is way better than the shitty cock rock of the anglosphere. The synthpop was of a general higher quality than most US synthpop, although maybe not on the level of the British stuff. Some of their rock acts in the 1970s were doing things that people didn't do until the late 1980s here

Japan is just another highly developed country like Germany or whatever. I don't get why weebs and anti-weebs are so ridiculous about this

You silly troll, Japan is the aryan of Asia, recognized by Adolf himself. Listen to japanese music without remorse.

America sucks, but it's because of people like you being lured in by foreign cultures and betraying your loyalty to the nation. You make me sick. You're so ashamed of being American you fetishize all foreign music and shun your native culture. It's sad man, get some help, awaken your identity and realize who you are. We have the blood of kings, your grandfathers didn't fight wars and conquer nations so you can sit on your ass listening to anime music.

>so you can sit on your ass listening to anime music.
What if I only listen to Sup Forums-approved rap albums?

WE

cool dont care what some dead retard thinks
go deep throat an ar-15 in a cowboy hat uncle sam. fucking dickhead. you have the blood of your siblings mating with each other. i just like the music, it's far better than american music in my opinion, i will keep listening to it, fuck the "white race" and all that shit, keep it out of music.

Kill yourself redneck.

you're right
we should all listen to Oh My Girl

WE WUZ KANGZ

Americans SHOULD be ashamed of their "culture and identity" because IT DOESN'T EXIST.

>cool dont care what some dead retard thinks
He will be remembered forever. Nobody will remember you or cry about you when you die.
You will never have people talking about you (either good or bad) in the future. Nobody will know your existence was a thing.

City pop = Japanese yacht rock, funk

They did yacht rock better imo, and maybe some synthpop niche genres.
However they simply couldnt compete in terms of rock, jazz, post-punk, punk, reggae, soul, hip hop.

you europeens BREATH American culture

omg this is great

Well they fought wars and conquered nations to create an advanced world superpower, which means the people will lead comfortable lives, which means I have little hardship and free time to listen to all the esoteric anime OST I want

All your pop music is written by Swedes
All your Hollywood blockbusters are made by Jews from France, Canada, and England
All your great novels were by first or s econd generation migrants
You have no culture. End of story. Good night.

>post-punk
I wouldn't be so sure, there's a lot of good post-punk and new wave in Japan.
youtube.com/watch?v=jElaxhpNbVY
Much better than USA post-punk that's for sure.

Ironic

Yeah because of your imperialism and post-war hegemony. Your influence is only through popular media, we can break free easily, and you are a declining power so you too are losing your influence.

Japan makes the best games, movies, animation, comics, music, and probs other things, too that I am not as familiar with. Except maybe porn cuz censorship. But a lot of that is not the stuff the usual stereotypically weeaboo thinks of. Weeaboos often like the most boring shit Japan has (shit jazz like Fukui, the entire citypop genre, shonenshit anime, etc.) As the romanticization of Japan is what makes them like Japanese things rather than appreciating them for being actually good, they actually haven't developed the taste to appreciate the truly superior things of Nippon.

>muh culture
>muh heritage
>muh history
>muh nationalism/patriotism

sure is spooky in here

this
japan is hypercapitalism. your job and class determines your lot in life. you are subordinate and the economy is controlled by corporate syndicates and yakuza.
they have this concept of maintaining face where they hide their true feelings for maximum harmony, it is a very important pillar of japanese culture. behind all the pageantry it's a hollow place.

>rock
Japanese music is big in shoegaze, punk, metal, post-rock, math-rock, post-punk...
The problem with Japanese artists is the language barrier, and the fact Japan itself is not as desperate to make their music popular outside of their country.
If only the Japanese government funded Jpop as much as South Korea funds Kpop in terms of overseas promotion and marketing.

City pop is fucking good though. It's not boring, it's well written jazz funk synthpop hybrid music. Its not the same as the American equivalents because it's a blend of styles along with Asian melodies/chord progressions.

I suppose someone who plays video games couldn't understand the intricacies of music though.

The Japanese government does not need to fund j-pop because Japan has a market for music the size of the US and several European countries put together. K-pop was only domination level popular in Korea from 2007 to 2012

>we can break free easily
try it faggot

yeah they MAKE stuff in these genres but none of their bands in those genres can hold a candle to the big western names.

i have heard japanese shoegaze, it's generic, it's not terrible but it's an imitation. none of those bands are close to MBV.
none of their punk bands are near the top, and the lyrics shouldnt matter for shoegaze or punk because those are more based on "vibe"

Your favorite japanese artists play video games.
