Luke's sister was originally supposed to be somebody else on another planet, not leia.

They were planning to have Luke find her and take on Darth as a team.

"The Other" was actually always Luke's sister but his sister was originally going to be a different character than Leia. His sister would then be the star of Episodes 7-9 but at some point, for reasons unknown, George decided he didn't want to make them and just made Leia his sister to wrap up the plotline.
