If/when Catalonia gains independence from Spain, could they make their own league?
Given how butthurt the reaction of the Spanish FA was over Gibraltar being accepted as a UEFA member, are they likely to throw their toys out of the pram over this too?
They really should have their own flag on Sup Forums too but that's a different issue.

The Welsh teams play in the English league for historical reasons. I mean sure it's about the money now, but if the historical reasons didn't exist then they never would've played in the English leagues in the first place.

They'll come up with a way to continue playing in the same league. If anything I think it'd be more likely to go the other way and they'd expand to make an Iberian league with Portugal too or something. If you think about it like this, the teams don't really give a shit about national boundaries or whatever, it just happens to be the way it is. The Real-Barca rivalry is worth too much for them to just give it up, and the justification of the league having existed for 80+ years already will mean that it won't end any time soon. Once the facade that the national boundaries are relevant is gone then why not expand the league? They will just bring in the best teams from other leagues nearby too.
Aiden Cooper
How can Sup Forums and Sup Forums compete?
Joshua Evans
They could still get Real Barca if they made an Iberian cup. It would be pretty fucking based to be fair, all the teams from Poortugal Spain Catalonia Gibraltar Andorra etc. Get rid of the shit Kings cup

Cups aren't valued enough and that won't change if you start doing regional cups or whatever. The only thing teams will care about is their domestic league season and the Champions League. Plus There are potentially upwards of 10 Real-Barca matches in a single season with the current structure of all competitions, why the fuck would they want to diminish that number? No other match is worth anywhere near as much to either team so they need the opportunity to face each other as much as possible.
Also why in the fuck would they give a shit about inviting Andorran teams into a cup? And do you have literally no idea about anything, why would you even suggest Gibraltar?
David Taylor
Why invite Met Police or Baldock Town into the FA Cup? Adds to the prestige when you can say literally every team in the land has taken part.
Also >cups aren't valued is fucking bullshit, what is the Champions League? Or the World Cup?
Elijah Russell
>mudslime nations protecting each other
Jackson Morgan
Because that's what the FA Cup is and always has been, a competition for every single team in England to enter. Newsflash: The FA Cup is unique in this regard, no one else does it.
>Also >cups aren't valued is fucking bullshit, what is the Champions League? Or the World Cup?
I literally mentioned the Champions League, it's obviously different because it's the only platform where the best teams from all across Europe can face each other. How the fuck is the World Cup even relevant to a discussion about club football?
You're just saying dumb shit for the sake of it I think.
Kevin Perez
desu, being a Catalan independentist and a FC Barcelona "soci" and season ticket-holder, I hope Barcelona would remain in the Spanish league (maybe turning it into an Iberian league or something) or maybe join the French one. Nonetheless, if the price to pay for independence is Barcelona playing in a smaller league, I am prepared to pay it, there are things that are more important than football.
Luke Kelly
No one else does it? France lets their fucking colonies join in in their cup.
There are also some fucking shit teams in the CL people seem to forget. An Iberian cup would have all the best teams in the peninsular, and there happens to be a good few of those

Yes because they have to be allowed in in order for the CL to have legitimacy. Nobody forgets it, it's because everybody knows that there are shit teams in the CL that you never hear anyone talk about it. Everyone knows that you only start to give a shit about the CL at the knockout stages.
>An Iberian cup would have all the best teams in the peninsular, and there happens to be a good few of those And every single one of them would come from Spain and Portugal, there's no reason to have any other country involved.
