I didn't know shit about geography before I started using Sup Forums tbqh
Amerimutts are not very bright people
No rudey in my thread
No
T*rks are not people
Canadians are pretty bad at it too.
Shit I've heard from actual Canadians:
>Tokyo is a country
>Tokyo is a city in China
>The Great Wall is located in Hong Kong
>You can only drive to Mexico from Texas
>Africa is a country
>Kuwait is a city in Iraq
>Bahrain is a city in Saudi Arabia
>United Arab Emirates is just a blanket term for middle-eastern countries, kind of like EU/Schengen Area for European countries
>Serbia is a part of Russia
>Miami is in Hawaii
>Puerto Rico is a part of Mexico
>India isn't part of Asia
>"The Middle East" is an actual continent of its own
>Lebanon is in Africa
>Mexico & Honduras are part of South America
I can't point out any european countries on a map ask me anything
Not even Great Britain?
they can probably point it out on a map but
youtube.com
to be fair those make sense if someone has never taken a class in geography, or done research into it
No. Most of them don't even own passports.
I grew up believe that the U.K. was named England tbqh
No it's 100% true, I could ask 100 Americans walking up and down the streets to point out Albania and maybe 30 of them would point it out right or be very close.
no, people are absolutely useless at it
Same nigboi
i'd say it's a pretty common mistake people make
It isn't taught in school, at least not very commonly
No. Your average American doesn't even know where certain states are.
Just for lulz, point out Moscow
>Amerimutts
>mutt
>this flag
kek
Yeah we're very narcissistic people. My sister who's going into a Master's psych program thought that the unemployment rate was at 20%
...
Its also really funny when Americans try to defend their failures/unethical actions. A good example is when someone mentions Vietnam, All the failed funded rebels or the Mexico-American war and most americans go defensive about them.
You had something until the Mexican American war bud, maybe don't attack US troops in US territory next time.
Damn, you are right. Lulz cancelled
Who cares about the Mexican American war?
>US troops in US territory
Oh boy here we go again.
>apaches, comanches, etc. (nomadic tribes from the great planes, emphasis in nomadic) moved to northern mexico while hunting and running away from americans
>war broke out between them and mexico due to the poverty the independence war left behind
>after decades of war (against spain, against rebels, liberals vs conservatives, etc) turns out it wasn't easy to make money and also wage war against the apaches in spared populated lands
>mexico decides it needs to populate northern mexico to stop the raids from the apaches
>invite americans to do that, granting them land, etc, under several conditions
>americans had to become mexicans, convert to catholicism, stop slavery, move to the parts that were being raided, etc.
>americans didn't do any of that
>animosity escalated and the mexican government decided that immigration was banned
>americans kept immigrating illegally
>illegal americans in texas decide to rebel (along with other parts of mexico)
>mexico had to fight several fronts with an ill prepared army and a lunatic as general/president/both (depending on the year)
>with difficulties, mexico starts to win against texas
>in a stupid move, the general/president lets himself get captured
>the mexican army, the congress and the capital are left unscratched
>the general/president says that the texas declaration of independence (done mostly by americans living illegally in mexico) is valid
>the mexican congress declares the document invalid and prepares to invade texas again
>Serbia is a part of Russia
if only
>america decides to annex the unrecognized texas without defeating the mexican army and the congress
>mexico declares this an act of war
>the unrecognized texas claimed land that never belonged to texas, not even under mexican rule
>that land became “disputed” (only because texans -again, illegal immigrants who didn’t defeat the army- wanted the land, not because it ever belonged to them)
>the imperialistic american president who believed america had a god-given right to all land (manifest destiny) saw this as an opportunity
>he instigated war with mexico by sending their army in the outskirts of the “disputed” territory
>it actually didn’t work so he had to send some troops inside the “disputed” territory in order to get a reaction
>the american troops inside the “disputed” territory (part of mexico claimed by the unrecognized texas) got attacked
>americans used this as an excuse, lying in the process “that it had happened in American soil and unprovoked” to wage an unfair war (as noted by several american heroes; Lincoln, Ulysses Grant)
>americans say mexico started the war
Some mexicans are still mad since it was a pretty dick move
>it's this guy again
I thought you said we were the ones who got defensive about it
I just reposted it from the original user, but you cant deny the thruth!
[spoiler]I really dont want to discuss this anymore so yeah we started the war sorry lets pretend I didnt say shit
Can you stop sucking Russian dick just this one time
...
can you two just fuck already
his my neighbor i don't want to be neighbors with submissive sissies
Nice joke, dude
>I'm from Europe.
>So you speak European?
rich coming from a roach
Reminder this ALMOST happened
In a sense, German would be the common "European" language
>people actually believe Hitler wouldn't have betrayed his neutrality pacts
No, although I think most normies are pretty shit at geography. I always go to bars when they have geography-related trivia and my Sup Forums autism allows my team to always place top 3.
As an American, I can practically name all of the European countries and theirs flags easily. However, I could probably only find 90% of the countries on Earth. Geography has always been easy to me due to Grand Strategy games and watching a lot of international soccer (makes it easier to identify flags). My girlfriend on the other hand couldn't even find Germany on a map. Throughout high school and university, I've noticed that Americans don't really know much besides their own countries geography. No, it's not a meme.
The hard ones for me are a handful of African countries and the tiny island countries in the Pacific. Asia, Europe, and the Americas are easy as fuck.
>>India isn't part of Asia
To be fair I've had an Indian tell me that they weren't Asian because India was its own continent his argument was that if Europe was a continent than India was.
I think the average 4channer (excluding Sup Forums) is above average intelligence. So you won't get people this bad at geography on here.
Sadly it isn't.
>Is Americans being bad at geography a meme?
Unfortunately, it isn't. I go to uni, and when I talk about other countries my classmates have no idea what I'm talking about, even sadder is people don't even think much at all about the world outside of America. :(
If America is first why care about number two?
It's fun to think and talk about strange lands far away.
I swear to god, not even kids in 5th grade would make these mistakes tbqh famalamadingdong
The average North American is not the brightest candle on the cake and you know it, don't even try to deny it.
He isn't wrong though
>Go to Turkey
>Turks are generally nice
>Go on Sup Forums
>They're faggots
Why?
he's right
Not trying to defend T*rks or anything, but everyone on this board acts like a faggot.
India's a subcontinent
Definitely asian, but their geographical separation makes them a different kind of asian to east and south east asians
>being bad at geography
Is there really any reason to learn the geography of the other side of the planet?
Does the average American have plans to visit or do business in X country on a regular basis?
So why should they care?
I'm betting the only reason Europeans know ``geography'' is because you're generally required to know all of your neighbors, which is ironic, because the entirety of Europe is the same size as America.
most people here know europe's geography
it's just an american thing to be ignorant
>Is there any reason to do anything other than eating, shitting and sleeping?
>India's a subcontinent
Do you consider Europe to be a subcontinent?
yeah, it's called a sex drive
no, because it's classed as a continent and India is classed as a subcontinent
you've got to realise that continents are entirely arbitrary
Please save us your autism.
Americans aren't as dumb as we get credit for
t. someone who has traveled
The way our continents are categorized is really inconsistent. Culture shouldn't play a role when it comes to to telling apart continents, thats why I don't like the idea of Europe as a single continent. We could go with Eurasia or even Afro-Eurasia depending on the circumstances of the definition, but treating Europe as a single continent "just" because of is just retarded.
If Europe claims to be a continent, then India could get away with the same reasoning (muh culture)
I know European and South American geography better than SEA. (just a blob to me desu)
Its a matter of how much interest you have.
I'm willing to bet that most people in the world aren't good at geography. It's not really necessary for succeeding in life and most people don't care about things outside of their country and/or neighboring countries
the difference is that the indians weren't in charge of the rulebook
it's a load of shit, but it is what it is
...
>you've got to realise that continents are entirely arbitrary
Everything is arbitrary. That's never a good argument.
>
If Europe claims to be a continent, then India could get away with the same reasoning (muh culture)
Well the idea of Europe, Asia and Africa being separate continents is so old even Herodotus has no idea why it was like that 2,500 years ago and he's the oldest written record we have diving the continents like that. For whatever reason, our ancestors divided up Europe, Asia and Africa and it stuck. It's based on a logic we don't remember.
You don't need to fuck to survive. Just like you don't need to know anything about Geography.
And you most definitely will never be able to fuck if you enjoy Cheez Whiz like our friend from the States that we're talking about. It's almost as if context matters.
>you've got to realise that continents are entirely arbitrary
Well just as long as its arbitrary in our favour.
AUSTRALIA BEST ISLAND CONTINENT!
>you've got to realise that continents are entirely arbitrary
Everything is arbitrary. That's never a good argument.
>If Europe claims to be a continent, then India could get away with the same reasoning (muh culture)

>Everything is arbitrary
'no'
Americans who actually travel are likely more educated and wealthier and thus more intelligent.
Name one thing that isn't arbitrary.
Every continent is an Island if u think about it. You got nice weather, but annoying animals and arid land. Meh/10
You should be glad, the less people know about Albania the more they like it, I used to think it was a normal balkan country with some nice ancient history to it.
anything based on sound, logical reasoning
Name one.
me calling you dumb
yep, this. its entirely true
Sure, but that's not what I'm getting at. I've seen a decent amount of the United States, some of the rest, and encountered people from around the world. In my experience, the average American is sharper and harder working than they get credit for
Since reasonable logic exist in making Europe a separate continent, even if you personally disagree with it, by your own definition it isn't arbitrary.
I'd rather be associated with South Americans than with canadians and americans.
but there isn't reasonable logic, someone literally just drew a line in the sand for the europe asia divide
russia and turkey sit on both continents, yet one's asian and one's european. That's called being arbitrary
Of course they are, people who seriously think they can put a group of people in the same (good or bad) corner are completely retarded without an exception. This is the only exception which confirms the rule.
Europe was described by Herodotus in the Histories (420bc) as the land separated from Asia by the River Phasis, or the Rioni as it's now called. He was following the conventions laid by several other ancient Greek thinkers such as Anaximander. The Phasis was most likely chosen because it represents the northernmost boundaries of the Persian Empire, the mightiest Empire in the world known to the ancient Greeks. So while the distinction might not make sense to us, it must have made at least some sense for the ancient Greeks. Thus here is your reasoning.
don't think they had any concept of continents back then mate
europe was a region like the middle east was a region
They invented the concept.
for what purpose?
did the ancient greeks know about the americas, australia, subsaharan africa, antarctica and most of asia? Why would they possibly come up with an idea of a continent?
I would like to know that aswell
The concept was older than the ancient Greeks. Here is what Herodotus had to say of it
"I cannot conceive why three names, and women's names especially, should ever have been given to a tract which is in reality one."
Some people think they were named after ancient tribes who are lost to history.
what
>You don't need to fuck to survive
No wonder Europes birth rate has been declining since some decades
No more than the average human being, I'd imagine. It's just Americans like to pretend they know what they're talking about, while everyone else has some semblance of humility.
It realls amazes me how you are not able to put such simple things in relation to each other. Are you really that fucking retarded? That fucking Yank seemed to have more cognitive capacities than you, holy fucking shit. You should consider joining a cartel, they need retards like you.
>But historically and - to a large degree - culturally, they are different.
so why is India not a continent? It's a region filled with different cultures, ethnicities and languages that is historically, geographically and culturally divided from the rest of Asia.
Europe and Asia were the first physical geographic bodies recognized as being continents. However, they are, as many people note, physically connected. But historically and - to a large degree - culturally, they are different.
Asia is almost too large to be considered one single thing, which is why it is divided into subcontinents like India.
If you are going to go by physical connectedness in defining a continent, however, you cannot stop with Europe-Asia, but must include Africa also. It's odd to me that people talk so readily about "Eurasia" but less about "Afroeurasia," as barring the unnatural Suez canal, Africa is just as contiguous with the rest.
Then we are down to Europe-Asia-Africa as one continent, with North-Central-South America as a second one. Antarctica gets to keep its identity, but Australia’s status as a continent on its own has even less credibility than it has now, because compared to our new three continent scenario, it is even more clearly simply a large island.
if it's cultural, why is Mexico and the spanish caribbean part of North America and the rest of Latin America part of South America
if it's cultural, why do many countries class the Americas as a single continent?
if it's cultural, why is Papua New Guinea classed as part of Australia and West Papua part of asia?
