Elon Musk says he wants to put a colony on Mars by 2022. Do you think he can do it? Does a Mars colony make any sense even? How would they get food and water?

How do you get food and water on earth ?

Food and water are p easy, mars has a ton of ice actually, the bigger problem is the gravity on the planet stretching you out.

I'd fucking go. Get me the fuck off this dumb shithole.

Read this shit. It's 100% doable.

> TL,DR: Nuclear powered chemical reacors arrive early and start making water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the return flight, if any

6 years? Not a chance. We're not even going to visit it in 6 years, or 16 years, let alone put a colony there. Perhaps we'll colonize in, like, 100 years when/if we have gravity control technology since the low surface gravity precludes human reproduction; the fetus doesn't develop correctly and at best you'd get nothing but birth defects. We should be focusing on terraforming technology and Venus. Mars is a dead end.

But Mars doesn't exist!
-Pol

humans won't be able to adapt to the martian gravity
we might be able to have automated mining on the planet, but the best we can do is to build artificial gravity space stations floating around in space

Elon Musk says a lot of things.

Everything about Musk scream "con artist" to me. He's the only person not a Jew I've ever gotten that vibe so strongly from.

Well technically we could engineer a species of human that could, only the Chinese would have the balls for that though.

Space radiation alone creates a terribly hazardous environment desu, and that's not even bringing the dust into it.
2022 is far too optimistic.

a few deformed lil fagts dont matter, whats important is that theres a colony that sparks a space industry, thats how it is

just kidding, but mars colonizers wouldnt be allowed to have babies until extensive animal testings. at first mars will be a retirement place, for scientists. its easier on your back too. btw fake gravity already exists dumbass

No, no, water's easy, food isn't. Keep in mind Mars doesn't even get enough sunlight to cultivate most plant life.

The Russians might

Humans so far have proven capable of solving problems efficiently. However, we learn the quickest when our life depends on it. I believe we would benefit from thrusting into a live mars mission, because it would force us to answer questions we did not think of before, leading us to destinations we did not expect.

Just go to the store, duh.

unless protected by heavy shielding, cancer rates would skyrocket for those living on mars and if you managed to survive would look twice your age due to the destruction of so many cells

>Venus.
This picture was taken by a probe before it was crushed by the pressure there. Some lasted as long as 2 hrs before being destroyed.

giant humans when

fugg

>Be earth manlet
>Go to Mars for ten years
>Stretch out 6 more inches
>Return to slay bitches
>Dick irradiated
>Fugg

mars is flat!!

mars colonoscopy i'd like to see

What bothers me is people think terraforming is achievable technology we'll develop in a couple hundred years

How do you think we will recover the geomagnetic field of Mars? You cannot create atmosphere and environment without it.

How long can humans live on mars before they pass a point of no return? Id imagine the weakened muscle mass for longtime would just make the landing on Earth a killer.

we should go to Venus
youtube.com/watch?v=gJ5KV3rzuag

It is all too optimistic, what is the point in colonising Mars so early anyway?

>It is all too optimistic, what is the point in colonising Mars so early anyway?

A True liberal would not simply hate his own race and land, but his own planet.

Scott Kelly lasted almost a year on the international space station, he grew like 2cm i believe. I'd say quite a few years to be honest but you'd need serious rehabilitation

it forces us to fix problems we woud not have thought of otherwise, allowing us to protect earth and move forward.

I think he means sending the first round of supplies by 2022. Getting the habitation there first is critical to mission efficiency. Let robots build the little house bubbles first and then send people over to live in them.

We should go to Uranus

Mars is ripe
it's atmosphere is already rebounding from the last cosmic war, when Marduk slayed Tiamat and threw the solar system into chaos

>cant even give water to california
>much less food in afrika
> man who puts 20 year old laptop battery tech on cars want to make a mars colony

venus is closer with a magnetic field and its almost the same seize of the earth, mars is a little bigger than the moon

On the Space station you take copious amounts of muscle stimulating drugs aswell as hours of exercise, on Mars your supplies would not be as constant as the Int Space Station.

How about we fix our problems on Earth first before we spend billions traveling to some barren shithole that won't benefit anyone except a few privelidged astronauts

Venus atmosphere is 200 times denser than earth
You'd have to float on air under pressure

>Trump will be president when we land on Mars
God damn he really will be the greatest president

>privilege

kill yourself

venus has too much pressure in the atmosphere and is boil your balls off hot

at the ground level yes, but in high altidude the pressure is 1=1. platform hanging from balloon. venus is closer to the sun so its mean more solar power potential

>a colony on Mars by 2022
no

>low INT abo
Clearly we just need two really big magnets

Its possible.

There was a plan for terraforming mars by detonating a bunch of nukes on it's ice cap.

It was then realised that Mars' gravity is trash and the atmosphere would actually slowly float into space

...

I believe sending robots to mine resources on the moon, mars and asteroids should be a bigger priority than establishing a colony on Mars.

and im pretty sure regular steel would be strong enough to build at the surface where the temp is only 400celsuis

Trade with the locals.

There is zero chance of success, not even a drug addict would think this is possible by 2020

Is that Mars?
Nice photo.

ayy

>Going towards the sun to colonize space
Are you retarded?

...

>Venus can't melt steel beams

>Resources
>On the moon

Oh god, this. Elon Musk is a retard who if you put some of his quotes next to Jaden Smith's pic you'd thing he was a dumbass as well.

He does nothing, with the exception of getting a company to never turn a profit.

Nukes. The answer is always nukes.

Nice micropic sempai

>Tesla stock just went up another point

>not knowing about the lunar titanium

>tfw Mars core cooled, stopped spinning, and stopped producing it's magnetic field.
>tfw someday Earth's core will also cool and stop spinning

Tesla motors is one of the few benevolent corporations in existence right now. You should be fine with this.

>How about we fix our problems on Earth first before we spend billions traveling to some barren shithole that won't benefit anyone except a few privelidged astronauts
Would people from mars have privilege?

We actually don't know how much gravity is needed, we only know that microgravity like in orbital is unhealthy. Mars might actually be enough to keep bone and muscle mass with exercise.

>by 2022
No.
>by 2030
Possible, given enough political will.

Mars gravity is close enough to earths' that it wouldn't adversely affect settlers.

There is enough gravity to maintain normal biological functions the body is accustom to/designed for on earth

solar power for broad spectrum LED

>Marduk slayed Tiamat

>Elon Musk says he wants to put a colony on Mars by 2022.

....and do what there that we can't do here cheaper again? What reason is there to send actual people to Mars when it holds nothing we need we can't get on Earth for less money and more easily. If you want metal, get it from asteroids. Anything else we have plenty of here.

Which is why we go to MArs and jump start it's core

>its impossible to generate an artificial magnetic field

they will obviously build a drilling vessel out of unobtanium and set off a series of nukes in the martian inner core, setting it back in motion

Mars gravity is close enough to earths' that it wouldn't adversely affect settlers.

mars gravity is 1/6 of earth
youtube.com/watch?v=fQa2bFSd4sM

Moon is 1/6
Pretty sure Mars is like 85% or soemthing

on a planetary scale? yeah it is. at least it is for us now.

0.375 that of Earth

from mars.nasa.gov/allaboutmars/extreme/quickfacts/

test

GAS THE BELTERS

SPACE WAR NOW

Mars is tiny.

if we blow one of the mars 2 moons maybe the grativitational tide will be strong enough to melt the core

>on a planetary scale? yeah it is. at least it is for us now.
>multiple generators placed all over the planet
>hurrrr durrrrrrr unpossible
if you can generate it in a fucking localized area then you can cover the planet
end of discussion

It'll just be another shithole full of dumb assholes, you'll just have less porn.

As for plausibility, I'd need to see what he's accomplished to date. He's got 5 1/2 years to do it, maybe he can but not if we're still only planning.

>we can do it on a small scale
>we can do it on a large planetary scale
>just put generators all over a planet
go to university first mate

S2 When!

at 85% muscular dystrophy would still occur

Entire idea is high cost investment which may or may not return itself. While Mars may have lots of land to use, making this land useful is long process. Mining for resources too.
The best thing humanity should do with Mars is sending there all commies
After all, it is red planet.

exactly who will feed those poor africans?

What you trynna say, famalam.

Certainly not Italy, you guys are poor enough

>its it le impracticable
>which means le impossible
hello
reddit

Not a chance in hell it'll happen by 2022.

Maybe a manned landing in the 2030's, but a semi-permanent colony/base probably won't happen until 2050 at least.

NASA is launching another rover similar to Curiosity in 2020, and SpaceX won't even be carrying humans to LEO until next year, assuming everything goes according to plan.

You can't just go to Mars and stay for a day or two like the moon. Not only does it take several months just to get there, but once you're there you're stuck for several more months until the planets orbit around the sun and line up for return window.

Maybe the Africans for a fucking change.

>remember to look at the flag before replying

sometime in 2017 i think

can't wait

Mars colonization is just a vanity project, there are far more useful things to be done in earth and in space

>It'll just be another shithole full of dumb assholes

LETS NOT DO IT CUZ PPL SUCK!!!

Back to plebbit, fag.

*on earth

Killjoys, right? July 1st.
