>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love music, that don't play an instrument
There are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love music, that don't play an instrument
I'm gonna use my 21st money to buy a really nice bass guitar and properly learn how to play it
I have an actual guitar but I've never learned much beyond chords and tabs for songs I like. I'm gonna nail this bass stuff right down to the scales and keys.
>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love movies, that don't know have never made a movie
every object vibrates in the universe and therefore 'sings'
you are limiting yourself if you think you have to 'play' an instrument when music is happening around you all the time, you need only listen
also
>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love music, that only listen to popular music that's from the current year or at most 50 years old and they don't listen to traditional or art music
Stupid comparison, try again
>dude everything sings lmao
>dude we're all just bags of beat lol
>dude our emotions are, like, just chemicals
>dude just listen lmao
...
HAHA this is the most retarded shit I've ever read
Basically this.
>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love books, that have never wrote one
>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love football, that have never played a game
What OP has never passionately loved is a woman, that fucking virgin.
I don’t even like music and I play two instruments
Git gud faggots
it's true, but you are close-minded
...
>>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love books, that have never wrote one
He didn't say "make an album" or "record a song" he just said play an instrument. The /lit/ equivalent is writing anything, the Sup Forums equivalent is know how to use a camera.
>there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love football, that have never played a game
Go to Sup Forums and try this. Everyone on that board played sports at some point, many still do.
fuck dude this picture fucked with me for a minute, i looked at it and i thought it was like a bird or something but then i noticed it was a dog
This user is correct.
Your comparisons were shit and you should be ashamed of not being able to play an instrument.
you're brainwashed and you vibration is lowered and not serving you
before you waste money on a nice ass instrument that you may or may not learn, actually do something with the instrument you do have you pathetic piece of shit
if you “love” a sport but have never played it you are the epitome of poser fuccboi
are you high bro
tbf music is way more expensive than any of those things, writing is free and you can get a camera off ebay for $100
$100 bucks gets you jack shit with music unless you’re into toy instruments
this. i remember being in highschool and buying a lot of gear really cheap because my classmates thought they could learn an instrument without all the effort, just buying a nice guitar/bass/piano
not even, like look at the picture but stare at the logo on the heel of the flip flop, the rest of it looks like a big bird like a turkey or a chicken of some sort
You can get a guitar/keyboard for a little over a hundred dollars. We're just talking about learning, and that's all you need.
People like you are so far up your own ass you dont realize that reductionist philosophy is retarded
I see it now. kek
hnnng meme six
...
that amount of times ive seen people say they like everything besides rap and country is astounding.
wow i found your retort funny and nice and I'm disappointed at all the negative replies.
Here I am user
true, especially if you take lots of acid
it's not philosophy, it's science. every object vibrates. this is just a fact
...
yes there is music in my head that i create with instruments that don't exist, so who cares if i can play something or not.
keyboard sure but the guitar you get for a hundred bucks is going to be a total piece of shit, whereas I could go buy a film camera for 20 bucks and shoot professional quality photos on it
thx saved.
Duck collection: 02
the whole premise of the thread is ludicrous to begin with
>but the guitar you get for a hundred bucks is going to be a total piece of shit,
You're exaggerating. In either case it's more than good enough to learn with.
>haha yeah bro sure you made a critically acclaimed album and tour the world every month but have you heard the music in my head?
explain how that's reductionist
find me a guitar for $100 that isn’t shit
plus good luck finding a woodwind/brass/orchestral instrument for that price
it's true many artists are struggling to realize the music in their heads as are writers realizing it with words, filmmakers trying to shoot a dream they had, etc. you're being silly and close-minded to say otherwise. imagination is what it is all about
enjoy your warped neck
>I don't have anything resembling a point
except those people are able to express the music in their head meanwhile you have no musical ability
brainlets must die
bestbuy.ca
These are all pretty cheap. If you're already a guitarist, yeah you want better but if you don't have one and want a learn, this is better than nothing. Btw those are Canadian prices so knock off 20% to make it the American price.
>plus good luck finding a woodwind/brass/orchestral instrument for that price
Won't argue here. Many instruments are truly very expensive, but you can rent them from music stores for very cheaply. My local one rents out any instrument for about 25 dollars a month, so you can see if you like it.
But I think if you really love music, 100-200 dollars for an instrument is a small investment. But you can always rent to test the water for much less. I mean some people here shell out 300+ for headphones. When something is your passion you're spending money on it.
eh, the idea that the goal of writing music is to conceive it in your head and then write/play it is kind of misguided
I mean it's a worthwhile exercise sometimes, but in general you'll get better results and find it less frustrating to just work it out on your instrument of choice by just playing around and making incremental changes, etc.
no, you're retarded
i play many instruments and make music. but it begins with imagination.
In reality, making art is also a process of translating that imagination to something concrete, which can be really hard. Also, the vast majority of ideas artists have in their heads are just sketches of the final work, the artistry is in developing those to something that can be consumed by someone else.
kill yourself, no-talent
I never said it fucking didn’t retard, you’re the one who was saying that it doesn’t matter whether or not your shitty music came out of your stupid shitty brain or not
fucking brainlets ruining everything fuck this thread
i don't necessarily mean it's the only way to go about making music. sometimes it is just that music pops in there and it's inspiring enough that you sit down to make a song, and then you end up making whatever you make that sounds nothing like what was in your head. but it was that inspired feeling that made you sit down and begin.
you're very negative and you seem to not even read your own comment. you did, in fact, suggest that i have no musical ability. all i said in reply was that i play and make music. chill, b
I guess so, but you outgrow your gear fairly quickly
is it possible to love music and not play an instrument at the same time?
I don’t know who you are but I’m talking about this stupid piece of fuck post made by this stupid piece of fuck poster
>but you outgrow your gear fairly quickly
Again I won't argue. Ultimately I'm just trying to argue that the barrier to entry isn't nearly as high as some people may perceive it to be.
no. You might not actually love music as much as you think you do. I personally don't care for instruments and care more for getting better with my lyricism
Do you sing them or write them for someone else? Also, do you care to share any?
kinda not really saying much there, just pure negativity. it's only words. relax
no you're definitely observing a school of philosophy, by trying to argue that because singing is just vibrations, and that because everything vibrates everything sings.
its a false equivalence though, because through our raw senses we can not detect this "singing"
>shitposts all over the entire thread
>gets called out
>jus b chill my dudes :^)))
unironically noose yourself dork
I'm too embarrassed to practice singing because the walls are thin. I make them for me and hope to one day get good at singing. I know I'm anonymous but I'm still embarrassed to share and I am very aware that I'm still not good.
Are you asking because you're also into making lyrics?
Well I loved music long before I picked up an instrument. And it wasn't even the love of music that made me pick up an instrument, I was far more interested in video games because I'm a lazy shit. Only reason I play now is because at the high school I went to it was compulsory to play an instrument for the first two years. Best thing that ever happened to me tbqh.
Having said that I don't think learning an instrument made me like music more, but it definitely helps to understand it better.
>$100 bucks gets you jack shit with music unless you’re into toy instruments
Or folk instruments. Singing is free btw
it’s definitely higher than most hobbies
although digital photography is by far the biggest money pit there is
>be OP
>be faggot, can play wonderwall
>"there are people on this board right now, who claim to passionately love music, that don't play an instrument"
>my walls are thin
wish this stopped my roommate from singing/rapping literally all FUCKing day
you just read a bunch of shit into what i wrote to have someone to argue with. i use the word 'singing' as to mean vibrating, or making sound. and i did not say singing is just vibration. it's not philosophy. it is scientifically proven that all objects vibrate, you can hear sound in pottery. that is what i meant by 'singing' and why i use the ' ' to make it understandable i did not mean literal singing but vibrating, which makes sound.
i stand by everything i've said, it's not shitposting. but i am telling you that my words should not cause you to be so negative, they are only words. i am not causing you harm.
>I'm too embarrassed to practice singing because the walls are thin. I make them for me and hope to one day get good at singing
That's too bad. Think there's a workaround? You might be able to soundproof the walls. Hard to get good at singing without actually singing.
>Are you asking because you're also into making lyrics?
Yes. I play in a band (on the drums) and usually end of writing the lyrics and vocal melodies because everyone else is too shy to. I was just interested to see what someone else came up with.
>it’s definitely higher than most hobbies
It is. I would say though that it's more rewarding than most hobbies, but I'm horribly biased in that matter.
>you can hear sound in pottery
no shit faggot but you can’t hear the molecules in your drywall fucking singing to you
your post is stupid just delete it and forget you ever said such an idiotic thing
The barrier to entry for moviemaking and music making are too different to make a comparison
i totally agree, being able to play music is a great feeling, it’s just harder to do than a lot of other things
Point stands. Being a creator and being a consumer are still different in any case
>people think this post isn't ironic
You're all a bunch of retards and now I understand why you worship Deftones.
everything has a frequency, i.e. sound
physicsclassroom.com
>I was just interested to see what someone else came up with.
I believe it would only really be interesting if you knew me or shared my perspective, otherwise it's just another line in the world of millions of lyrics
>Think there's a workaround?
In the least I've been thinking about doing lung capacity exercises so that when I hopefully sing one day I'll be able to do long, powerful vocals.
Haha and you should really convince your vocalist to start expressing himself
what if i write tunes in fruity loops?
oh really so you can hear microwaves and thermal radiation huh?
Not really. Buy a camcorder and make a short film you lazy nerd. Write a script. Start acting. You claim to love movies but don't even into blocking?
>singing
let the man dream
>/rapping
oh... is he passionate about it or is he into trap?
...
yes actually, everything produces sound albeit some is inaudible to a human ear. some dogs hear what humans cannot but everything vibrates and has a frequency
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
>I believe it would only really be interesting if you knew me or shared my perspective, otherwise it's just another line in the world of millions of lyrics
I understand. Sometimes 1 sentence of lyric requires 1 page of explanation.
>Haha and you should really convince your vocalist to start expressing himself
I try believe me lol. I hate having to sing and drum at the same time because it limits what I'm able to play so much. I asked him to write lyrics to bring in next jam and he said he will so that's a start. I think people should sing their own lyrics. I believe you will always sing your own words better, even if it's just 2% better.
that’s when they’re struck idiot
you are so fucking stupid obviously everything makes a fucking sound when you do something to make it make a sound
the vibrations in molecules that your first idiotic post are related to things like temperature and make no sound
a DAW is technically an instrument. I'll allow it.
there are people married who claim to passionately love each other, that still vote.
Can someone decipher this post?
I play Guitar, Bass, and Keyboards, and I'm pretty good on FL Studio anyway. Getting a Sax soon, so I'm going to start learning that too. Thinking a banjo, but I may already know that thanks to my experience with the guitar.
dogs can’t hear molecules vibrating in an object that is at rest, nothing can
you are an idiot, don’t cite me scientific papers if you’re too stupid to even comprehend them, that article clearly states that you aren’t hearing microwaves, you’re hearing the microwaves boiling your stupid fucking eyeballs
I’m positive you just googled “can humans hear microwaves” and then linked the first article that wasn’t yahoo answers
Banjo is based. Get it
That's better since you're actually being creative.
i never implied every sound is audible. you are being unbelievably obtuse and seeing everything in black and white. of course i just grabbed that article to fuck with you. because your replies are so dense
>yes i can hear microwaves
>links an article that says you can’t actually hear microwaves
hey bud, those noises your microwave makes aren’t actual microwaves
If you use a DAW, you should have MIDI keyboard, and if you have a keyboard, you should know how to play it. Basically, learn piano if you're going to use a DAW. It helps so much
>I hate having to sing and drum at the same time because it limits what I'm able to play so much.
haha wow I didn't know you also sung them during performances. You really should keep bugging him to express himself.
Btw are you really okay with just being the drummer if he does end up doing it? Sometimes i imagine what I would say if a bandmate were to suggest lyrics. I know it may sound selfish but I would like to keep the entire lyricism part to myself. Melody suggestions are fine though
based
>Btw are you really okay with just being the drummer if he does end up doing it?
Of course. I don't really have an ego in this thing. I wouldn't mind the occasional lead song, like the Beatles did for Ringo, but that's about it.
>Sometimes i imagine what I would say if a bandmate were to suggest lyrics. I know it may sound selfish but I would like to keep the entire lyricism part to myself. Melody suggestions are fine though
I don't think it's necessarily selfish, but it's good to be open to suggestion and criticism. Working as a team is about compromise. Hopefully you will find someone who is a lot like you, that way you won't have to compromise very much.
yes you fucking did you absolute fucking moron you said that everything fucking sings because everything fucking vibrates and you equated it to music and now you’re *literally* playing the “hey jokes on you i was only PRETENDING to be retarded” card
not only are you too stupid to fucking play an instrument but you’re too stupid to comprehend high school science, clearly all you are capable of doing is using your single digit iq to upset people on Sup Forums because you are the first poster in months to have made me genuinely irritated, and even then it’s only because you can’t keep your shitposts straight
congratulations
