Festivals Thread

what festivals have you been to Sup Forums? like any of the line-ups announced for this summer? best/worst festival experiences etc.

Never been to a festival and do not plan to

Shaky Knees was alright. Levitation is good.

You have to go to Europe for the select few with great lineups and not total shit atmosphere

any particular reason? i'm sure there's something out there for you

PRIMAVERA SOUND forever

Day For Night has been my favorite
Really dig the cyberpunk aesthetic

Not counting small one day things in own country, or festivals I've just gone to for the day.

>Hellfest 2014
>Wacken 2014
>bloodstock 2014
>masters of rock 2015
>summer breeze 2015
>Stonehenge 2015 (except it got cancelled half way through as it turns out the Netherlands has shittier weather than we do in England)
>bloodstock 2015
>Netherlands Death Fest 2016
>Download 2016
>Metal Days 2016
>Hellfest 2016
>Lords of the Land 2017
>Netherlands Death Fest 2017
>Brutal Assault 2017

Hoping to go to this year
>Netherlands Deathfest (already have a ticket)
>Midsummer Prog Festival
>North of the Wall
>Stonehenge
>Bloodstock (would be metal days but can't get the leave) most of it's shit but everone goes so will be alright
>Kill Town Death Fest
>Never Surrender Fest

Doubt I'll be able to afford them all, but will see. NDF, KT and NS are the main ones.

he probably has no friends or social skills, festivals are much more social than just going and seeing a band at a club show, what with the camping, travelling further afield, how long it is etc. He probably pretends "you're not seeing the band properly" or some pretentious shit to hide that it's just because he has no friends.

>best
Taking 2-CB and just watching the clouds turn into giant expanding "snow flakes" while hanging out in the camping area.
>Worst
Being thrown off stage by the festival organiser half an our into my settime because he didn't really know who I was and why I was booked (I was booked by other team members) and put me on basically the wrong stage at the wrong time thinking I was someone else. He came up on stage stopped me, super fucking pissed I wasn't playing the music he booked me for (Because I wasn't the artist he thought I was when he did the set times) and canned my set then and there. I just straight up packed up and left then and there. Got paid beforehand though so suck shit.

I'm went to Primavera for the first time last summer mainly to see Aphex Twin play but loved the festival so I'm going back this year, and the lineup seems pretty good.

>2-CB
god-tier festival drug. It's easy to handle even the the visuals are strong and music sounds really good, also the comedown and afterglow is nice. LSD is still my favorite but can be a little too intense sometimes with so much people around all the time

Going to Soundhearts on april. Radiohead, as well as Johnny's band. Flying Lotus'll be there, and some local bands will open.

Pretty hyped for it, especially since the fucking ticket was like 1/8 of my salary.

saw the line-up and that thing looks fucking amazing. I've considered going for the past couple years but I've had to settle for Parklife festival... again.

Actually the reason I have no friends isn't because I lack social skills but I'm simply of an IQ too high to bother wasting my time with socialising.

End of the Road is the best in the UK by a fucking mile. Primavera is still the best though.

not necessarily.

Parklife this year has:
Four Tet
Sampha
Floating Points
Vince Staples
Earl Sweatshirt
Lorde
Everything Everything
The XX
Jamie xx (solo set)
Goldie
Justice
Kelela
The Internet

Just depends what you're into. I agree on primavera though. saw Spiritualized & Nick Cave and flipped out.

Gonna see Sleep with Subrosa on the 7th. I anticipate it to be the best show I'll ever go to.

7th of April*

Can I get some recommend names?

Not counting La Banda Trapera del Río

you don't know any of these artists?

download festival 2007, 2009, 2010, 2016

hard rock calling 2009
mayfest 2011 (shite university "festival" ...)
uk tech fest 2013
kendal calling 2014
slam dunk festival 2015

going bangface this year

I went to Reverence last year. It was alright, it was my first festival and I liked the experience, but everyone bashed the whole event to the point where people are saying that it's probably not gonna happen this year.

No idea about some of the middle and small bands

Strap in for a long rambling on festies of all types in the states:

I've been to more "ravey" festivals like Paradiso, Das Energi, EDC etc. cause of free tickets and selling drugs to make money. Those are fucking trash. The people are awful, the music is awful, IDK what you would expect otherwise. Everyone is just their to get FUCKED up, especially the trains of asian people that push their way through crowds.

Jam band fests: Been to several High Sierra Fests throughout the years, Gem and Jam, Etc.
A lot of these bands play Red Rocks in Colorado in the US. THEY ALWAYS PLAY BETTER ON THEIR OWN TOURS THAN AT FESTIVALS.
This can honestly be said about any band. Skip the festivals, they are usually a shit show and a half for kids who want to take drugs. If you wanna catch a show do it while the band is on tour, I promise you it will be a MUCH better show. This applies to music of all genres.

Most festivals in the states are way over rated.
Maybe I am jaded though

i don't know if they have any non-edm dance festivals in USA but they are a lot more enjoyable when you get rid of the commercialised EDM aspects

we have non EDM fests like coachella and sasquatch that are commercialized as all hell...
it's a shame really.
There are smaller festivals that aren't as commercialized that can be a lot of fun but it's usually just small indie artists, which is right up my alley, but still having been to some it's not particularly my thing I would much rather listen to recordings in the comfort of my home, but I've been dragged into more than my fair share of fests.

Desert Daze is incredibly comfy

i mean non-edm dance festivals (see dekmantel, outlook, dimensions, soundwave)

Uk has bare fests
