It's an 8 for me, honestly more than I expected from 2018 MGMT
you're just okay

Damn..OP just got destroyed
>tfw the only good thing out of all this meme MGMT revival was the Suehiro Maruo art on LDA's single cover
I want to puke
come on, it's not that bad, I'd say the album's a 4, but yeah it's a disappointing. The Maruo art wasn't even new, it was just some old work they used.
I don’t think you should have a valid opinion when someone like you has saved these horrid photos
mods please sticky

BURN!
4 out of what? 10? That's absurd. Even if the rest of the album was below average, the singles would carry it. And the rest of the album isn't below average. It's not amazing or anything but it's pretty good.
Alright fine, it's a light 5 (out of 10, yes)
Post link then you worthless fucking faggots
Post what you think a 10 is you fucking faggot
it's on kingdom leaks
It's shit.
It's lazy pop music from a band that wants a new contract.
post nudes
Better than their self-titled, I hope?
Not even close.
At least that had songs like Alien Days and Mystery Disease. This is pap.
They actually said that the idea of being independent was really insteresting and that's probably the way it's gonna be in the future.
If that's their intention why would they make a blatantly commercial, incredibly 2018 pandering pop album?
Oracular Spectacular 7/10
Congratulations 9/10
MGMT 3/10
Little Dark Age 4/10
LDA POSTING IN A SHITTER THREAD.
LEAK IT DEAKKKK!
Apparently you haven’t listened to side b. They’ve always been pop you retard. Listen to their old stuff
There's a massive difference between the pop music of Congratulations and the pop music of something like Me and Michael.
...
Not clicking that shiz, nibba.
The self titled would have been a great album if they had actually tried to get serious for a moment and recorded the album without all those silly "WOW SO RANDOM AND PSYCHEDELIC, NOT RIPPING OFF THE FLAMING LIPS AT ALL" moments. Fuck, even the songs that should sound stupid sound WAY too overloaded with unnecesary instrumentation that doesn't add anything worthy.
I think LDA is a lot more complete and thought, having some fun ariel pink influenced (well, he actually worked on the album) 80's pop moments but at the same time understanding that the serious songs should have a certain mood to work.
Listen to climbing to new lows or time to pretend ep. this album was more going back to their roots with a mix of their past albums
early mgmt is so fucking comfy
>commercial
>pandering
Did you even listen ?
at the very least little dark age is a fantastic track, and when you die is pretty good too
this triggers me badly. you don't just give a number as an explaination of an album's merit. not even a very subjective one. it doesn't mean anything, fuck. it says 0 things about the fucking album. all we know is that you liked it, and for what we know you are rock banging mouthbreather from Sup Forums who came over to talk about his favorite band because they just released an album
This performance they did on a german talk show is pretty good. I love MGMT but they are pretty meh live. I was impressed its not complete shit
I disagree, I honestly think its a really good album. 8.5/10 on first listen
I love the album, but that peformance blows
IT KEEPS HAPPENING
haha she painted her chins out.
please elaborate old man

Shit sorry meant for
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS SHAMELESS IMPERSONATION
sorr I manty
TROLLED AGAIN REEEEEEEEEEEEE
so is anyone here going to actually discuss the music instead of just saying "it's just okay" or "i like it 8/10" ?
Yeah they’re going back to the ironic pop music they made money from. Only this time it’s not ironic, it’s pandering.
or it’s just some music some guys made cause they liked it
All their releases but the self titled have been pop, I'm sure they like catchy music and just made the songs because they wanted to, after all their last album didn't have as much substance as you actually need to make interesting experimental stuff.
>aoty already in February
maybe in plebtown missouri
Are MGMT fags? What's with the songs about men? Me & Michael and james.
>and so I think....
>think
>think
>think
i really, really like this image
James is a tribute to their guitarist I believe
HOLY SHIT THIS IS JUST CURRENTS BUT BETTER
Anybody who doesn't like it now will call it an 8/10 in 5 years because their autism prevents them from liking anything new
OS: 7/10
CO: 9/10
S/T: 10/10
LDA: 8/10
the lyrics hold this record back, music is alright though
How is nobody talking about One Thing Left to Try
Because it's too short and ends too early.
>t. Soyboy that stares at his phone all day
Because it sounds like I'm shopping at a fucking H&M.
It's better than Congratulations.
Give it a couple listens.
It's a 7 to 8/10. Days That Got Away and When You're Small aren't that great and drag the album down a little bit.
>S/T higher than Congrats
fucking autism
how could it be 10/10 with such a shit cover too
not to mention how awful the production quality was
Why does mu dislike OS?
The second part of the album doesn't sound much different from Congrats.
Do you dislike it because of the pop singles?
Those are both good tracks, the worst is probably James because of the monotonous vocal performance.
Congratulations had lots of dead space and aimless parts like Siberian Breaks.
The non-single tracks were essentially mediocre garage rock. They'd go on to improve that style on Congrads while sacrificing the big pop singles.
Days That Got Away sounds a hell of a lot like the "dead space and aimless parts" of Siberian Breaks. It has no context and it just feels like a jam they put on the album because they needed another song. Maybe it would've made more sense if the track order was tweaked a bit.
When You're Small just feels like the second half of Dark Side of The Moon.
Delete James and this is 10/10 album
>of moons birds and monsters
>mediocre
Eh, at least it doesn't stretch on for 12 fucking minutes. I like it as a bit of a dreamy, downtempo breather.
>When You're Small just feels like the second half of Dark Side of The Moon.
>implying that's a bad thing
>>When You're Small just feels like the second half of Dark Side of The Moon.
>>implying that's a bad thing
>Implying it's a good thing
Fuck me for not wanting to hear something that reminds me of an album everyone has listened to at least 50 fucking times. If I want to hear Brain Damage, I'll listen to Brain Damage.
I Think That Days That Got Away is one of the best songs on the album but it's just in an awkward point in the album.
Fair enough. I feel like it's a bit of a worthless jam considering the whole album is pretty much conventional 80s electronic pop/goth. It's like they wanted to make another Lady Dada's Nightmare.
Best song on the album.
your*
See I'm thinkin James might be my favorite track on the album. Is that Andrew doing vocals on it or is it Ariel Pink? Hard to tell.
I think it's their second best after Congratulations. Most importantly though its a huge bounce back from the mediocre s/t. I wasn't expecting something as good as LDA after that album.
i think this track is what the self-titled would sound like hadn't it been horribly produced.
WYD > LDA > M&M > SWOTM > OTLTT
Rest is shit
If sel-titled is a 6/10, LDA is a 8.5/10
just my opinion
>you're from Sup Forums
>posts filthy frank
just fucking kill yourself
Oracular Spectacular - 6/10
Congratulations - 7/10
MGMT - 5.5/10
Little Dark Age - 7/10, maybe 7.5 when i listen to it again.
lmao
>"Where's a link"
>posts link
>"I'm not clicking on that shit man"
you're fucking retarded
ME AND MICHAEEELL SAW IT AS THEY COMEE
She Works Out Too Much is so good lads
when did mgmgt become transcore?
Is the kingdom leaks download legit?
>the best tracks are the ones I've had the most time to listen to
Just got done and I really like it, I’m a little surprised that the title track was more representative of the album’s sound than the other two singles but for the rest they did a very good job of going all in on the 80s synthpop sound, it’s big and full of instruments and their most pop since Oracular without having an overly-polished modern radio production, definitely sounds like it’s still them doing their own thing.
“James” is probably the weakest and overall the record’s not any kind of big statement, it’s more just fun stuff for people who like Pink/Maus brand of weirdo pop but since I do it’s totally something I’d put on to chill out. And “When You Die” and “Hand it Over” are still amazing.
Most of the songs have key changes and interesting structures too, you can hear Pink’s influence on the stuff he co-wrote but these are more interesting than much he’s done by himself since “Round and Round”, his new songs have been a lot simpler, more direct and based on playing around with a few chords rather than winding bizarre compositions since he stopped being solo/lo-fi, which is why a lot of the highlights on his newer records are re-recordings of older songs. MGMT have very well utilized his sense of melody within their more prog-ish writing style
High 7 probably, definitely better than the last John Maus album which was in a similar vein and pleasant/listenable but had very little songwriting ambition. I haven’t listened to MGMT’s s/t much since it came out and I don’t remember liking it, but I’d say this one is on par with Oracular but probably not as good as Congratulations.
Also "She Works Out Too Much" sounds like a Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog song played on 50 Moogs and it's pretty glorious
fuck you. Self-titled is great.
>implying any of the music they made has ever been ironic
i haven't listened to it yet but it's trending towards a 9/10
