All the material I managed to get my hands on is inconsistent as fuck, and it makes my blood boil that "ji" is sometimes transcribed as "ki" and sometimes as "tyi" and other stuff lile these.

There's only one proper official way of romanizing chinese which is pinyin. So I dunno what all those other systems are.

"Standard Hungarian Transcription" is the "ki" one and "tyi" is supposed to be some new phonetic transcription. (Neither are meant for English or international readers)
But the new one was only in endnotes and the main body of work used pinyin.
That was useful, since that seems to be the correct transcription.
But it's sort of impossible to write stuff down 100% faithfully.

I don't know why Hungarian would have a different method of romanization. Pinyin isn't specific to English, the way most pinyin is spelled doesn't sound anything like how you would pronounce the word in English.
Wouldn't learning anything other than pinyin be a waste of time? Since you need to type in pinyin to input hanzi on a computer.
The thing is, pinyin isn't phonetic, but those transcriptions are, so you don't need to learn pinyin to read those.
Also: The "Standard Transcription" was devised before pinyin.
Of course, pinyin is infinitely more useful.

I'm not well versed in Chinese cinema to be honest, so I'm not sure if that's a real danger. But this movie was really good.
The only other Chinese movie I saw was Journey to the West. Which was, ehhhhhh. Suited to Chinese tastes maybe? Lot of things didn't make sense. But what really got me at the end was the message about forgiveness. That was 10/10.
