How did he do it?
Was he aware what he was doing was pure genius?
How did he do it?
>Was he aware what he was doing was pure genius?
Pretty much yeah. He couldn't handle the rejection very well though.
>In February 1974, Drake contacted John Wood, stating he was ready to begin work on a fourth album. Boyd was in England at the time, and agreed to attend the recordings. The initial session was followed by further recordings in July. In his 2006 autobiography, the producer recalled being taken aback at Drake's anger and bitterness: "[He said that] I had told him he was a genius, and others had concurred. Why wasn't he famous and rich? This rage must have festered beneath that inexpressive exterior for years."
I just lost respect.......
Why?
I imagine it must have been frustrating being such a promising kid, then droppingout of school, moving in with your parents, and doing nothing but smoking weed. Imagine never having a girlfriend or close friends despite having height, looks, money, etc. Everyone around you seems like such a success, and you can't even hold a job.
nick drake biopic when
it's not that good
I've always wanted to dress like him and play a bunch of his songs just for him.
>ding dong stringy strangy
>*incoherent mumbling in british*
WOW YEA REALLY GENIUS GUYS
>incoherent
you wot m8
god. this was me a few years ago minus the astronomical level of talent and good looks (obviously). i used to listen to nick drake obsessively every single night before bed and was sure i’d kill myself within the year.
i’m so thankful that i got on ssri’s. i wish more people understood that sometimes their brain chemistry just needs adjusting :-/ wish nick had made it too.
sadly when Nick lived the best they had were tricyclics
it's good music user
yeah, plus general lack of awareness of/ social stigma against depression. he probably didn’t know anyone else dealing with it. man. thinking about his life really bums me out. i know he had an easy, cushy life compared to so many people but it was such a waste for him to die so soon and under such... pathetic circumstances. never knowing what an impact his music would have
glad you're doing better user, seen depression fuck up friend's lives so it's good to hear that you've got yourself in better shape
This album becomes even more painful when you realize it’s the sound of someone completely beaten by life and ready to give up. On his early albums he had super intricate song structures/lyrics and lush arrangements, but with Pink Moon it’s like his confidence has been whittled down to the point he can only write really sparse lyrics and simpler progressions. Even the album is very short, it’s like it took everything in him just to get. It’s one of the most painfully honest albums there is.
Just to get it out*
thank you kind stranger. hope all is well with you too
i never realized how fucking sad ‘parasite’ is till i listened to it a few days ago in a particularly low state of mind. i think he knew he wasn’t long for the world
Reading his lyrics can be pretty heartbreaking too. He was a man that had every reason to succeed but just didn't.
Nick Drake is what happens when you smoke too much weed become introverted and asexual
>and once you've seen what they have been to win
>the earth just won't seem worth your night or your day
Too pure for this world
Become asexual?
I love the album but I feel like "genius" isn't the right way to describe it. It's just a glorious expression of pained yet hopeful sentiment. Calling it "genius" makes it seem too affected. Obviously the guitar playing is fairly intricate at times but that just seemed like a natural externalization of his inner complexities. I mean 'Horn' is such a primitive song and is yet devastatingly beautiful. I guess you could call that utilization of simplicity "genius" but I can't help but feel that cheapens it.
yeah whatever guys have you ever listened to lil peep?
*song yet is
sorry for the bad syntax there.
