>As usual with Bowie, Blackstar (RCA, 2016), produced again by Tony Visconti,, is mostly image and very little about the music. The ten-minute Blackstar, that was supposed to be the centerpiece, is little more than a funereal litany a` la Doors with jazz horns that goes on five minutes too many. Bowie crooning melodramatic in Lazarus (from his Broadway musical about an alien who falls in love) or romantic in Dollar Days is either delirious and pathetic, certainly not entertaining. His tedious voice interferes with the driving jazz jam of 'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore and with the frenzied and tense Sue (a 2014 single). Even when the voice is not a distraction, the rest is hardly intriguing: I Can't Give Everything Away boasts an awful distorted guitar against syncopated beats and layers of electronic drones: not exactly genius. This is trivial "music" that any amateur could make, except that most amateurs would be ashamed to release it.

he changed it cuz he realized later it's actually not that big of a deal and it's overrated

His original ratings were better

he upgraded In Utero and downgraded Bleach tho... what was the point of that

>Pitchfork
2/10
>Scaruffi
8/10

when will he finally die?

why is that bizarre? scaruffi favours prog. pitchfork always hated the mars volta and never forgave them for 'betraying' post-hardcore

>Its a good album
>Scaruffi gives overhyped score
>Pitchfork gives laughably low score

ive seen this img for years and only just recently realized it's from an mde skit

Scaruffi's music reviews are just a front for his sexual attraction to the number 6

Carnival of Carnage , 5/10
The Ringmaster , 5/10
The Riddle Box , 5/10
The Great Milenko , 5/10
The Amazing Jeckel Brothers , 5/10
Bizzar , 5/10
Bizaar , 5/10

all correct, pic related is right too

Brighter Than is fucking good shit

Ya know, I think there's something charming about having a music reviewer around who genuinely hates music.

...

>too pleb to enjoy classics such as barbie girl

the fact that no tact

Suicide (1972) painless/10

The fact this is rated the same as OK Computer from the same year, Redditoplebbit faggots will never ever recover

reminder that the Scruff does have a list of favorites that include both jazz, classical, and rock, where TMR is barely in the top 10. TMR (9.5) is just the highest achievement in his opinion that a rock album can receive. If he assigned numbers to jazz and classical, he'd have 4 or 5 10/10s

what are those albums??

Most significant works of music 1950-1990
(Just a teaser: i don't guarantee consistency with the genre-based rankings)
1. Shostakovic: Symphony No 15 (1971) [classical]
2. Karlheinz Stockhausen: Gesang der Junglinge (1956) [classical]
3. Charles Mingus: The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady (1963) [jazz]
4. Boulez: Repons (1980) [classical]
5. Carter: Symphony of Three Orchestras (1977) [classical]
6. Ligeti: Double concerto (1972) [classical]
7. Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica (1969) [rock]
8. Lutoslawski: Sinfonia 3 (1983) [classical]
9. John Coltrane: A Love Supreme (1964) [jazz]
10. Part: Tabula rasa (1977) [classical]
11. Robert Wyatt: Rock Bottom (1974) [rock]
12. Gerhard: Concerto for Orchestra (1965) [classical]
13. Faust (1971) [rock]
14. Penderecki: Hiroshima Threnody (1960) [classical]
15. Terry Riley: Rainbow in Curved Air (1968) [electronica]
16. Jon Hassell: Dream Theory In Malaya (1981) [electronica]
17. Meredith Monk: Dolmen Music (1981) [classical]

26. Feldman: Rothko Chapel (1971) [classical]
27. Miles Davis: Kind Of Blue (1959) [jazz]
Partch: Revelation (1960) [classical]
Tubin: Symphony 8 (196x) [classical]
Don Cherry: Mu (1969) [jazz]
Ljubica: Byzantine Concerto (1959) [classical]
Reich: Drumming (1971) [classical]
Carla Bley: Escalator Over The Hill (1971) [jazz]

Xenakis: Orient Occident (1960) [classical]
Steve Roach: Dreamtime Return (1988) [electronica]
Tippett: Mask of Time (1982) [classical]

And rated higher than Kid A.

huh, so only one jazz album above TMR. But Let My Children Hear My Music > The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

>Albert Ayler: Witches and Devils
I don't get how this tops Spiritual Unity, and why doesn't Braxton's For Alto and Improvisation Series F never topped his list, though they were more calculated forms of free jazz.

HE STOPPED FROM DOING REVIEWS?

>he doesn't rate Doctor Jones

Quite decent actually

(You) 0/10

High scores for a average person: 8 / 9 / 10
High scores for Scaruffi: 7 / 8 / 9

Just remembering: Normal 8 = 7 from Scaruffi

Show me the idiot who doesn't think 7/10 is high.
This isn's school you clown, 5/10 isn't failed, it's average. 7/10 means well above average.

most people seriously don't understand that man

>Ratings: 10=best album ever; 9=rock masterpiece; 8=buy it now; 7=buy it eventually; 6=buy it if you are a fan

>10=best album ever; 9=rock masterpiece; 8=buy it now; 7=buy it eventually; 6=buy it if you are a fan

He never gave a 10. Makes sense.

Seems like an apologist

It's fucking MGMT, Sup Forums. Why do you like them? It's top 40 trash with a couple fun songs.

>Highest score for Riot
Somewhat patrician. He should’ve given the debut a higher score too.

Wow.

>Ultraviolence - 7/10

ok this is completely insane

totally accurate, geidi primes is her best

White Light/White Heat should be there, though below VU&N. And of course Metal Machine Music.

accurate. try listening to it

Trout Mask Replica is only 7th and it has a 9.5, so presumably at least the top 3 are 10/10.

And all the stuff on his essential classical is surely 10/10 also.

holy shit he's changed so many of them. I think I prefer his old whole number rating system

More like 6 / 7 / 8.

GAYssical doesn't count.
