Barre Chords

How do I learn to barre chords in 1.5 years? How to do go about building strength and dexterity in my left hand? Please suggest some exercises.

Start with a simple A then drop it down a string then add fingers one by one.

just keep doing it

do the chord, use as much strenght as you can to make it sound perfect for 5 strums, lay your hand on your leg, let it rest, repead until your confortable with the barre

I just fixed my friend technique on this:

Make sure your wrist is positioned properly so that your index, middle, and ring fingers can barre all 6 strings one at a time. Like you should be able to barre all of the 5th fret at once, then add notes on top of that to voice it.

It's really all in the wrist and hand positioning

As for exercises: practice different barre chords. Like find at least 5 ways to play each chord. And don't ignore extended chords

Find songs you like with barre chords and play them. If you find some songs that are open chords just barre them instead.

Tbh learning to play anything beyond the C G and D chord is pointless as long as you have a capo

this, I even use one on my Uke.

Shit guitarist chiming in I see

just find something that feels relatively comfortable and doesn't involve too much of a death grip. start with the basic E and A shapes so you can just focus on the bar.

i wouldn't overthink hand position but one thing is don't try to hold your index finger dead straight as if you're imitating a capo. as you can see in that pic, most players have a curve which feels more natural and actually holds the notes better.

you don't need superhuman strength. the fatigue is unavoidable after a point (like if you're playing all barre chord progressions for minutes on end) but so long as you develop decent technique you'll be fine with your delicate soyboy hands.

and only want to play childrens' songs

>people having this much trouble with barre chords
I seriously don't get this

I literally never had a problem with barre chords way back. Are kids these days just fragile and weak or what?

my god imagine believing this

Like learning anything it's a matter of repetition

Even if you're not a fan of punk you should learn to play along with the Ramones and Black Flag (specifically the Nervous Breakdown EP) those bands in their early days wrote almost exclusively songs made up of only barre chords. You can start playing with just power chords to learn the songs then learn to play with barres.

Pretty much this

I learned it in 3 months, its not that hard
