might as well stop referencing the games pretty much immediately. the movie hardly has any relation to them.
it's an incredibly fresh piece of filmmaking. absolutely refuses to play by the thematic and structural rules of modern blockbusters, but that wouldn't really mean much if it weren't executed well. i can see why people disliked it - it's a pretty abstract/absurd concept and takes itself dead seriously - but that kind of sincerity is a positive in my book. outside of all that, i think it just looks incredible. Kurzel and Arkapaw are an excellent team, and they really have an eye for the visually unexpected.

i'm cognizant of the fact that they're not lit in the same way, but the aesthetic and overall style is fairly similar. main difference, to my eyes, is that Arkapaw and Kurzel were going for a more stylized or surreal look.

Hey man. I really liked the film but i immediately felt that i had to watch it again to fully absorb the experience. The 4 is a place holder until i can have clear thoughts on the film. 4 is not a bad score.
The doll dance sequence is one of the best and most powerful scenes i have seen in a film. That much i am sure of.
