Australian man arrested for facebook post

A Sydney man has been charged after he posted a screencap of another facebook users post that contained a screencap of a womans tinder profile.

The post attracted a number of comments described as "degrading", when the woman asked the man who first posted her tinder to remove the post he refused.
In response, the woman shared the post to her own page which attracted the attention of her friends.
The friends set up a facebook page titled "Sexual violence won't be silenced" and quickly gained over 11,000 likes and called attention to their plight.

The man who posted the screencap of the screencap, who I have no fucking idea where he comes into the picture because the article is written by a woman, pled guilty to the charge using a carrier service to menace, harass, or cause offence.
He will be sentenced on 29th of July where he faces 3 years in prison.

You plead guilty when it's part of a deal. It saves the state money and time. Either you get a lower charge-- like manslaughter instead of murder, or a lesser degree of murder-- and therefore a less severe sentence, or some other kind of deal.

If it's a death penalty state in the US, sometimes will plead guilty to avoid death penalty in exchange for life without parole (I'd personally pick the death penalty were I in that situation, but even that takes 18 years unless you are someone like McVeigh the Jews want dead enough to rush it along.

To save time and money, the prosecution or crown depending on where you are would offer up a plea bargain, typically a less severe sentence but it could also be a lesser crime as others have stated.

However, the nifty thing about plea bargains is they are not legally binding. A prosecutor could throw the entire bargain out, and it would be perfectly legal. However, that would fuck over the entire system.

"no contest" is not an admission of guilt but an acceptance of a sentence. pleading the 5th is not acceptance of anything, and you still have to be convicted.

The current tyranny is exerting control through pleasure though, instead of outright fear and violence. When the world stage and even your own domestic stage view the government as largely peaceful and benign, or at least a provider of comforts you "couldn't live without", an armed response would be viewed as heavy handed and misguided. Until the government can be pegged for doing something completely against the will of the people, and not for the people, only then could there be a revolution.
