A bit. She had a bit more personality and credibility, and the melodies to her songs were better than they are now.

I believe that she did whore herself out to the point of overexposure. Her album Bedtime stories failed and when she had a single from the album with a provocative music video, it failed.
Doing provocative stuff does thrust people into the limelight, but it only works if the work you are doing is successful, and if people don't expect it from you.

i tend to tune out right before ray of light which contrary to popular opinion is a shit album and a blight on pop music as a whole
her next career move should be to ditch futile hit-chasing, kooky spirituality and nicki minaj features and double down on a collab with the charli xcx/crj people, or something even more left-field. madonna pretty much invented that style of music anyway, it'd be a fresh version of what she does best
