Strange way to spell "Tony Iommi"

Jimi Hendrix

>he's smiling because he knows he's better than Jimmy Page

this, dubs confirm

Tbh, there's more technically talented Guitarist out there than Jimmy Page, but in terms of guitarist able to capture a mood and really speak with their instrument, Jimmy Page has to be top 3. He knew what would sound good and what would sound bad when playing.

Yeah in terms of like technical ability then it would probably be Metheny or McLaughlin, or maybe grant green

He's sloppy but it really him a unique style. There are a ton of guys that are ridiculously impressive technically, like John Petrucci, but lack a definitive sound

He was a master at the groove...

Nah, Page is just as lacking as the wank guys though. At this point it's like this preconcieved notion almost brainwashed into kids' heads that bluesy playing is always emotive even when formulaic and anything else doesn't come close.

was one of the original jam band guitarist. check out this never recorded cover/jam/medley.

youtube.com/watch?v=-lg98FMKupU

this. y'all are retarded. page is nice, but he's nowhere near GOAT status. like not remotely close.

Are you 16, by any chance?

>bluesy playing is always emotive even when formulaic

just as the false meme that "bluesy" playing is always formulaic and devoid of emotion.

holy fuck. never heard that. its killer.

Good slide work here. "Embryo No. 1"

Good improv jam "Embryo No. 2"

Johnny Marr
Richard Thompson
Kevin Shields
Nile Rodgers

I don't like shredders.

I love those guys, but I'd have to go with Guthrie Govan and Tosin Abasi. Really at the forefront of their instruments technically but also have tons of musical writing chops.

*blocks your path*

youtube.com/watch?v=QRMwO08lPuI

Wes Montgomery is better.

Page was a great guitarist...but there are others who are "better" but Pagey's true brilliance was in putting it all together...the playing, the arranging, the producing to create iconic songs and albums that are vastly superior to any of the modern meme shredders like Govan et al...

>He was a master at the groove...

this. he wasnt the cleanest or fastest or most technically gifted but he had the groove that moved people more than just about any other rock guitarist.

Wearing and tearing, custard pie, wanton song, ten years gone, black dog, rock and roll and on and on...all just had killer grooves that moved the brilliance needle.

he's still really not that good. if you think guitar music begins and ends with rock music then he's cool, but he's really an embarassing player compared to someone like Paco De Lucia

youtube.com/watch?v=6wxdVUlG6GU

>an embarassing player

no. my cousin vinny is an embarrassing player. Page was a great guitarist in the rock context. He had the ability to make people feel with his playing which is remarkable. No, he is no Paco but Paco is no Page. Apple and Oranges.

>muh emotion
>only plays what sounds good
Sure is pleb in here

Jimi Hendrix
Prince
Paul Allen
Eric Clapton

paco could do everything page could.

FPBP

having the technical ability to do something is not the same as having the inspiration to do it.

Could Paco write, arrange and produce like Page? clearly not.

writing is not guitar playing.

the fact that someone can copy everything else someone does perfectly doesnt make them a better guitarist or even interesting
innovation and good writing>playing very complex 10 minute pieces

so, like...
he owned the Black Beauty *before* his other Les Pauls?
lucky chap

But what if...

So Jimmy page stealing songs and copying other blues guitarists doesn't make him good? Nice to know

Buckethead
knows more notes than page.

Man show me a classic blues musician who didn't "steal" songs freely. I don't even like Led Zeppelin, they're like a pretentious Deep Purple and just as dull as the kashmir fabric itself.

>implying all Les Paul players are shredders or bluesmen
also pic related is the best guitarist of the last 25 years. Prove me wrong.
Protip: you can't

yeah it does. if you write a great guitar melody in your head, that doesn't make you a guitar player, or even a good one at that. sorry you had to find out this way .

blues is honestly trash for that exact reason. one of the most limited genres ever. jimmy is overrated as hell.

what's going on over there on his neck pickup? is that a metal strip?

A few of the 80+ songs Zeppelin recorded were nicked from old blues songs...rearranged and remade into something wholly new...this is true. But what other "blues" guitarists did he copy?

>Protip: you can't

yes, yes I can and just did.

man, I swear, the SG has to be the corniest/tackiest guitar on the planet

>corniest/tackiest

strawman says what?

Why? who's ever heard of a corny guitar? Worked for Angus and Jerry

Who cares what it looks like, Derek's tone is otherworldly

David Gilmour is literally the quintessence of "muh emotional guitar" types. That said, I do love his playing. He may not be the fastest shredder alive, but his bends and vibrato are top-notch.

Nigga, serious guitarists don't play SGs for looks. They're just one of the nicest guitars to play, especially concerning upper fret access.

don't mind me man, that Devil Jr. body and fuck-hueg neck just never worked for me

agreed

>upper fret access
it's that exact design that makes it droop and dip so much
it's slim and comfy, yeah, but I never liked how I had to adjust it all the time whenever the neck decides to slide down

look guys I appreciate your appreciation for the SG, just wanted to voice my thoughts regarding it

that said, I wouldn't mind getting one in purple since it looked extra tacky that way

pic related is definitely up there IMO

You could go full prince and go purple with gold electronics

Wish more people talked about Metheny, he's an absolute legend, him and his trio was the best concert I've ever seen by a long shot.

Sure, except I never insinuated that bluesy playing is formulaic by default. Next level retard, I hope you were trolling.

sounds like you just had a shitty SG. LMAO. i feel bad for you honestly.

>'63 SG
>shitty
no lie, it sounds good, but really not for me
sorry bb

you got a lemon lol

...

This guy is easily in my top 5.

your poor grasp of semantics doesnt change that a part of guitar playing is composing

no it's not. sorry.

If you only listen to guitar for technical competence, you may have autism, and you may want to consult a psychologist

i don't do that. writing and guitar playing are seperate things. don't be so dense idiot.

fuck, you guys are so fucking gay
shut up already

>plagiarists
>the best at anything except theft

ew, fuck off retard

I feel writing and playing go hand in hand. You sound like a pretentious douche.

no, you're just wrong lol

hello there

...

...

epic meme DUDE xD

I love Ol' Lightnin', but if ever there was a bluesman who lived up to the stereotype of only knowing variations of three songs on guitarr, it's him. He's like the Viper of delta blues.
