life is hard
Yes it is my friend.
what's the 2nd one? Looks like something Shinya Tsukamoto would make.
It is something Shinya Tsukamoto would make, because he made it. Tokyo Fist
Right. I saw that earlier last year. I remember liking it a lot. Needs a rewatch.
I have failed in the quest to make a pic of 9 films.
names?
Strike, Shadows of Forgotton Ancestors, Patton, Cries & Whispers, Winter Light.
>3x3
>6
ok
That's the stress from these complicated threads.
thanks haven't seen patton or strike, love the others
Patton was awesome. You go in expecting some silly gun-ho biopic you come out wanting to read Roman literature about past battles. Or at least that's what happened to me. George C. Scott has some much pathos in his role as Patton it's amazing.
here you go OP
so first I'll post my 3x3 for movies I can always rewatch
gonna watch happiness of the katakuris later tonight
Why do you like Ichi the killer? From all the Miike films i have seen it was easily the worst
then the "le sophisticated film connoisseur" list
Katakuris is great. Arrow released a blu ray recently.
As for Ichi it was one of the first Miike films that I ever watched next to DoA and Rainy Dog. It's an interesting yakuza film with some nice dark comedy.
>Magnolia
My dude
Have you watched Boogie Nights as well?
Damn son, you sure like your chinkino.
Middle right and bottom left?
5
yah. Plus The master, inherent vice, and Punch drunk love
el topo
>not knowing thief and the cobbler
What's the bottom right one with the jap soldiers?
yeah, Takashi Miike is my favorite director.
Battles Without Honor and Humanity
5 great films made by Kinji Fukasaku.
Hi
What's the movie with the dude holding that chrome desert eagle?
robocop
RoboCop
I have the complete collection by Arrow Video but I haven't watched them yet.
Thanks for listening.
I hope they release the other saga made by Fukasaku "New Battles Without Honor and Humanity"
What's the one on the middle left?
tokyo drifter
With the suited guy shooting?
here.
Yes.
My nine favorite films.
How old are you?
i watched don giovani and du cote d'orouet
loved both a lot, my favorite recent watches of the year so far...
also saw nostos and an interview tieh piavoli, amazing stuff, love his way of using sound and "dialogue" in his films
nice to see you liked Du coté d'Orouet, you will probably enjoy the rest of his stuff too.
Bernard Menez was really great in it, it's hard to be both annoying and lovable.
whatre the top and bottom middles?
40
names? this looks like some real kino
ill be checking them out for sure
have you given some thought to watching out 1?
i remember you said youd like to see it all in a day
the night of the hunted, nostos il ritorno, nazare
don giovani, du cote d'orouet, sing street (real kino lol)
defying everybody, eika katappa, mysterious skin
top mid is Vampyr, bottom mid is Tout va bien
I want to but probably can't do it in one sitting and that bugs me.
I've read somewhere that Rivette thinks it's more appropriate to see it in 2 days so I'll probably do that someday.
cool, hope you like it
youve been watching a lot of experimental shorts right?
yeah I watched a lot of those recently, some video art is really great
nice, you can't go wrong with Piavoli, everything I've seen of him so far has been extremely good, if you don't know it already also check out Vittorio de Seta, he makes short documentaries that have the same visual feel
I watched the Joris Ivens films you recommended and I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, the photography was amazing at times but I didn't like the fast cuts, and I didn't really get what his point was with a tale of wind apart from having a really weird wind fetish
It's been a while. I haven't updated in a looong time, I will today if the thread's still up. My dilemma is if the goal is to make an interesting grid, then do I really need to include films like 2001 and The Seventh Seal? It's not like I'd be choosing films to pretend to have "better taste" I just think it would be more fun to pick some less commonly seen films that I like nearly as much
just pick your favorite recent watches, it's simpler that way
yes, i love de seta, his features like bandits of orgosolo and un uomo a meta are great as well
i mostly liked tale of the wind because im fascinated with the hybridism of docu/ficiton and that was one of the first documentaries of that style
nothing wrong with fetichising wind though, piavoli does that as well haha
a lot of the stuff you log seems interesting, anything youd recommend?
that was one of the first documentaries of that style that i saw*
...
I really liked Robert Cahen, esp L'invitation au voyage, you can find his stuff on his website : robertcahen.com
Not experimental, but if you like slapstick I'd reccomend Max Linder's stuff, he invented the genre but most people don't know about him, I saw some of his stuff, including 7 years bad luck recently, and it's really nice.
I'm off to watch a movie, I'll come back after.
whats top left?
Pitch Black
Please give me the names of these
Alien
...
Did you really like Suicide Squad that much user?
What are you talking about?
Edge
D
G
E
Bottom right, I was reffering to how much it looks like nu-Joker
bottom left?
The Master
>he hasn't seen inland empire
wow rude
I can't even think of 9 movies that I've seen that I've liked recently so here's 6 instead.
What are the 1 and 2? I think I recognize the rest
Always the same wording
Bump
...
First one is Pink Floyd's The Wall and the 2nd is The Proposition. The Wall is good until it goes full mah fascism and Roger Waters shows his 6th grade level understanding of politics (it gets cartoonishly over the top).
Maybe its time to find another medium guys. You all have abysmal taste in film
At least post some impressive films along side your bait
Are you blind? all 10/10s
They're not bad films (videodrome is NOT 10/10 though). He just has no right calling out other people's taste when his is so basic and undeveloped
>videodrome is NOT 10/10 though
um wat, its considered the best body horror film of all time not to mention one of the best 80s films... or would you rather he post the thing or blade runner? you're the basic bit h here
>imdb top 250
whats the middle one? thats not david byrne, is it?
You're pretty funny.
>garden state
fucking kys immediately you retarded faggot
long time no see bruvs
The more obscure your films are the more respect people have for you!
chill.
fuck
Considered by who? Not me, I'm just giving my opinion. And best film of the 80s??
>Blow Out
>Blue Velvet
>Scarface
>Amadeus
>Paris, Texas
>Ran
>Elephant Man
>Once Upon a Time in America
>American Werewolf in London
>Possesion
>Come and See
>Thief
>Fanny and Alexander
>Das Boot
>Fitzcarraldo
>Sans Soleil
>Nostalghia
>The Sacrifice
>The Decalogue
>On the silver Globe
>Dead mans Letters
All better than any croneneberg and that's just scratching the surface
come and see is literally the only good film in that list. your taste is dog
>come and see is the only good film in that list
oh wow
the fact you pick sans solei over koyaanisqatsi is reason not to trust you
In my attempt to make a more interesting grid, I ended up picking another two movies by the same director. Oh well, it's a little more personal and indicitive of my taste, which is good for recs.
+I'm Still Here
Good to see a familiar face, sadly I didn't like Veronique very much. It has everything I'd want in a film, but for a movie whose purpose is to convey feelings that can only be shown through pure emotion, they weren't feelings that I could relate to at all. I know that's a personal thing, I was just sad to have not gotten more out of the experience. I'll watch some more Kieslowski and come back to it
>two Malick films
nice shit taste
And in this one you picked two lynch movies. Isn't top right Lost Highway and middle Blue velvet? Excellent taste btw
>three Malick films
Just being honest man
malick tells the same story with images in every fucking film he makes. just watch days of heaven already
Nah, badlands and days of heaven completely different. Both amazing.
Yep. Thanks, have you posted a grid? It's not that I haven't seen foreign or even less accessible films, I've just been trying to go through filmographies and obviously I'm in an American phase
Mid left is that star wars?
