Is soundcloud rap the new counterculture?

Is soundcloud rap the new counterculture?

It seems like it's the only rebellious form of counterculture music we have left

counterculture doesn't exist in the age of the internet

Well, I still think soundcloud rap is the closest thing to it. It's completely and utterly anti-establishment. Spit in the eye to the system.

If 5'5" then how tall is Lil Peep, based on this pic?

>counter culture
>just a sub-genre of the most popular form of rap (trap) right now

wow fuckin edgy

counter to what?

Reminds me of punk splitting off from garage rock music with the clothes and lyricism and DIY production.

>anti-establishment
>buys Gucci

Mainstream culture. These guys aren't your polished MTV rapper. They have a lot of grit n grim to themselves. You can't actually feel the raw emotion and self-indulgence in their songs.

Imagine believing that fucking GUCCI is counterculture

Subculture is the word you're looking for.

Gucci Gang is antiestablishment?

>soundcloud rap
>anti-establishment
Most soundcloud rap is consumerist to the bone. In fact trap music in general has basically degenerated into pure advertising for drugs, fancy clothes and nice cars.

Soundcloud rap and trap is the modern equivalent of 70s buttrock like KISS. The pushback against it will be the new counterculture.

Listen, they take the gucci clothes and appropriate it. It's no longer just a commodity. It's a reminder of class status. Where they've been. What they've saw.

No and no

the consumerism is a mockery/self-mockery of mainstream culture. It takes all that the mainstream has throwm at us and spits it back out in a furious manner.

Listening to edgy quasi-mainstream pop that is trendy at the moment is probably the least original thing that I can think of. Plebs here need a sharp wake up call.

Good to know Sup Forums is still as shit as ever

>counterculture
No. It is the culture.

Society has become so degenerate that the soundcloud scene is regular culture.

>It's a reminder of class status. Where they've been. What they've saw.
Reminder of being born into wealth?

>Where they've been. What they've saw.

They're suburban white kids that were born into wealth. The only entertaining thing about these fags is the inevitable worldstar video when they get stomped out.

It's really the death rattle of hip hop similar to how the Strokes and the White Stripes were the death rattle to rock 15 years ago

The mind of a braindead 18 year old

It's a bubble. It appeals to kids outside of the music industry who hope to be discovered. So they circle jerk and promote each other. All the charasteristics have been adopted from mainstream rap but inflated and misunderstood to their own demise (drug culture and violence, tattoos, nonsense lyrics). And now the record label kikes are taking advantage, making these kids rich. Soon they'll all be dead, with very few grown up, and they'll leave no legacy whatsoever. It's a pretty sad phenomenon. Discount grunge. Kurt Cobain meets Rebecca Black.

that nigga dead lmao

this stuff is to the 2010s what Brokencyde and crunkcore was to the 2000s

Absurd. Soundcloud rappers are dumb teens infatuated with retarded consumerist tropes they got from watching tv and emulating earlier generations of garbage tier rap music. Lil Pump is not critiquing culture when he says

Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang, Gucci gang (Gucci gang!)
Spend three racks on a new chain
My bitch love do cocaine
I fuck a bitch, I forgot her name
I can't buy a bitch no wedding ring
Rather go and buy Balmains

He's a drone idiot participating in a stupid culture.

Brokencyde were clearly ahead of their time

>modern equivalent of 70s buttrock like KISS.
What the fuck does this even mean

>anti establishment
>DUDE WASTE ALL YOUR MONEY BUYING NAME PRODUCTS
>DUDE GUCCI GANG XD

You want to know the worst thing about teenagers?

They are so stupid they think listening to music provided to them by big corporations is rebelliouse.

You want to be a rebel?

Go buy a fucking suit and learn to play the accordion

it's cheesy party music made by people who wear silly costumes and its popularity is determined almost entirely by the style and personality of the musicians rather than the quality of the music. seems like a fair comparison.

ordinary rappers
>make some good music
>get signed up, fame and money
>fuck your shit up, flaunt your wealth, abuse drugs, convictions

soundcloud rap
>first song is about xanax addiction and having a lot of money
>go to jail after releasing 4 songs

all those redditspaces lmao

Ok guys
Lil pump, 21 savage or lil peep

peep all day

yes, they should all go to the gas chamber.

i agree

...

You're putting too much thought into it if you genuinely think it's tongue in cheek

Better a reddit space...

...than a reddit opinion

6' under

So wouldn't punk be comparable to buttrock of the 70s like Kiss or any artist with an image?

you got to roll your eyes at every shitposter thinking being some corporate brand slave is rebellious.

Soundcloud rap is actually the opposite of punk rock.

Punk rock had a political consiounce.

Look at this video, the whole thing is just mocking rich people and at the end sid shoots all of them

youtube.com/watch?v=rDyb_alTkMQ

you want to know the message i get from sound cloud rap?

take a lot of drugs and die, but before you do waster your money on gucci.

This music is infused with a nihilism and capitalism that is fucking disgusting to anyone with a brain

yes and no. punk aspired to more but was largely a failure. and the problem isn't having an image, it is having nothing but an image

Lil Peep actually had some good material.

this guy tryin to sound intelligent but completely missing the mark lmao

how am i missing the mark?

Punk rock had a political and class conscious

Sound cloud rap is all about image and how many pieces of clothes you can buy

soundcloud rappers are brain dead morons who encourage people to take drugs while there is an opiate epidemic and then brag about how much money and corporate brand name clothes they have

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_ideologies

Punk ideologies are a group of varied social and political beliefs associated with the punk subculture and punk rock. In its original incarnation, the punk subculture originated out of working class angst and the frustrations many youth were feeling about economic inequality and the bourgeois hypocrisy and neglect of working people and their struggles. It was primarily concerned with concepts such as pro working-class, egalitarianism, humanitarianism, anti-nationalism, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, anti-war, anti-racism, anti-sexism, gender equality, racial equality, civil rights, animal rights, disability rights, free-thought and non-conformity. One of its main tenets was a rejection of mainstream, corporate mass culture and its values.

Punk ideologies are usually expressed through punk rock music and lyrics, punk literature such as amateur zines, spoken word performances or recordings, punk fashion, or punk visual art. Some punks have participated in direct action, such as protests, boycotts, squatting, vandalism, or property destruction. Punk fashion was originally an expression of nonconformity, as well as opposition to both mainstream culture and the status quo. Punk fashion often displays aggression, rebellion, and individualism. Some punks wear clothing or have tattoos that express sociopolitical messages. Punk visual art also often includes political messages. Many punks wear second-hand clothing, partly as an anti-consumerist statement.

You are a very naive, simple-minded man. Everything Lil Pump does has a deeper meaning. When he says "I could go flex on your hoe," he is commenting on materialism in today's society and the way it destroys relationships. Lil Pump does not say things just to say things. Soundcloud Rap is what Punk wish it was. It's genius masquerading as ignorance, fools like you can't comprehend it. Your children will however, because unlike Punk, Soundcloud rap has the potential to live on for decades.

this

>Everything Lil Pump does has a deeper meaning.

What was the deeper meaning of shooting a gun out the window?

wtf i love lil pup now

see, and the there's assholes like this who think ironically praising this conformist consumerist trash is like some next level shit when really they are just manipulating themselves into ironically embracing corporate mediocrity

LOL SO WACKY LIL PUMP IS ACTUALLY DEEP XDDD

Consider the artistic context behind Lil Pump’s decision to shoot a gun out of a car window. The idea of sitting still, in a moving car, and shooting a gun out the window. It's brilliant - it indicates that we as humans are unpredictable and live life in a non-linear way. We do not simply experience life as one straight line, rather a series of lines in a manner of directions that all ultimately still move forward somehow. The gun represents spontaneity, whereas the car is a metaphor for us slowly and constantly aging.

how does it feels being dumb

and remember: lil pump is a harvard graduate :^)

KEK

underrated

interesting take on a timeless event

SoundCloud rap is the establishment for at least 3 years now retard.

Its the establishment for sure. Its in that comfortable position of seeming counter culture yet is completely safe and neutered/established so teens will flock to it.

negative 6 feet currently

All popular music perpetuates oppression and cuckolding the audience

There will be a come back of old school and 80s experimental beats and a return to MCing its inevitable. The current experimental hip hop will become the mainstream of hip hop but hip hop's popularity will decline as a result

>it's "we try to sound like those thesaurus addicted cocksuckers who review albums on rym" episode
where is that rhcp isnt pop rock faggot, he would fit in this thread brilliantly

soundcloud rap is just as trash tier as RHCP.

...

there is no culture and no counterculture, they just want poor people to get credit cards so they can buy 900 dollar pants and shirts. it's economics not culture.

>most mainsteam music
>counterculture
At one point it might've been but not anymore

You sound like a fucking Pitchfork writer, get out of here with your soyboy bullshit. Soundcloud rap is just the latest fad for edgy teenagers with self-diagnosed depression to jerk off to. It'll be forgotten in a year or two.

This guy gets it.
