Thoughts on Joy Division and New Order? was Curtis the only good member? Which band is better? how does Bernard Sunmer compare to Curtis as a vocalist?
Joy Division/New Order

both bands are great for different reasons closer and substance are their best respective releases
Bernard Sumner is a pretty bad vocalist. Still, I prefer New Order's synths and more upbeat, melodic (yet still melancholy) vibe to Joy Division's constant brooding.
they're great!
Not sure how good he is technically speaking, but I really dig Peter Hook’s basslines.
Stephen Morris is a fucking good drummer
I've never found a single area where Joy Division was better than New Order. If it weren't for New Order, Joy Division wouldn't even be worth remembering.
Bunch of nazis
Tony the Tiger!
Anyway Peter Hook sucks.
Yet still Barney's vocals not so good, I still love them and their melancholy presence
>was Curtis the only good member?
Pretty much the opposite
And yes, Hooky is dick
New Order is just a more gay Joy Division.
>Anyway Peter Hook sucks.
as a bassist? "no"
as a person? debatable
redpill me on hook
My favorite from them is the first New Order LP. I don't understand why people seem to dislike it. The mix between synths and the rock elements is perfect.
I'm trying to get familiar with the stuff they released in the late 80s, but it sounds a little too mainstream for me (I hope it clicks some day tho).
Technique is their best album as a whole but almost all of their best songs are from their early career
Ok, I'll check it tonight.

This is the first New Order song I liked. For years, I thought it was an original from Wovenhand.
When I listened to Movement for the first time and heard this familiar song, it blew my mind.
Hooky is a legend watch your fucking mouth and kill yourself fucking little bellend twat
Seriously, what's the deal with Hooky? (I usually don't read gossip)
just standard late-career band politics drama
don't worry about it
Ian curtis was not a good singer, he was an excellent writer and his singing fitted the band.
Peter hook is an excellent bassist and Stephen morris is a top tier drummer.
Barney vocals suck, but people forget that he was the one that did most of the synth stuff.
They all good. Although what made Joy Division gold was Martin hannet, the producer.
Also peter saville's cover were the best designs ever imo, the minimalist obsessio of today wouldn't exist without him
