Yeah it's not about hype, it's about Japan actually having a proper music scene, with underground artists and experimental acts. Korea is a really strange social experiment, they are like a shell, with nothing inside.
I'm sure there are a few Korean contemporary classic musicians and what not, but when it comes to genres like punk, metal, post-punk, math rock, post-rock, whatever, Japan has a lot of acts in those genres (and even pioneered some like noise rock).
You don't need to be a fan of anime to enjoy Japanese music.

ok, I agree that kpop general is basically "softcore korean idol porn general" but it's just not true that they don't talk about the music. they do, it's just to make up for the eye porn. if they didn't talk about music and were more open with their innuendo then mods would delete the threads. it's the most moderated thread on this entire board. k-pop is music, so as long as they keep pretending to care about the music the threads will stay up, as will Grimes thread, as will Lauren Mayberry threads etc. etc.
