Vulnicura is a great album that's not pretentious, it's literally a break up album.
Medulla is a great album with a well executed concept and Bibliophilia is also pretty damned good. Whether or not these albums are pretentious is up to your definition of pretentious.

I think it would be fairer to say her recent music has not been very immediate. But I feel like after 40 years you should be able to earn a certain amount of indulgence. And even while Utopia was a miss for me, I think she is in that bracket where you're going to want to hear something whatever it is she does next anyway.

Sup Forums is a bit young to remember this but we had bad decades with Bowie before his late in life resurgence. Artists in that tier are going to swing and miss I think, its the cost of doing business.
