90s hip hop was just better their lyrics had a message. Now they dont even rap about anything just guns and drugs. Ice cube, easy e, the list goes on

They still rapped about guns and drugs, it's just that the production was so much better back then than it has been the past 18 years or so. The flow from the lyricists was a lot better as well, in my opinion.

The production was like way better 4 track > fl studio. Like what do they need all that auto tune and volume for like turn it down. And 90s rappers would like flow real groovy and talk about guns and drugs because they were like badass

I think it was of them being former drug dealers or affiliates and wanting to get put on in the record industry. They had the "street cred" already and a lot of them knew how to string rhymes together. When you have someone like DJ Premier, Pete Rock or Buckwild doing your production, it made it sound even better. I still think that Buckwild was and still is the most underrated producer of the 90's along with 4th Disciple.

i know all the big time dealers from back in the day they were producing some hits like, "crack slave", "red mist", "rotting corpse smell", "home invasion and rape the pretty wife" all of that shit really resonates with me. they style of production was buckwild they knobs was all over.
