Christ I love record stores. The atmosphere is great. The selection is overwhelming, in a good way - it's like being in a library, or a museum, that feeling of being surrounded by art.
Also CDs are cheaper than digital music. Fuck paying $10 bucks for an album, I just got it for $0.50, as FLAC, and supported a local business. Eat your heart out Amazon.
I'm fond of them but I'm over it. I think they'll be gone sooner or later. Hope there's something to fill the void, in terms of physical interaction (however minimal) with other people who are deeply passionate about music.
Christopher Cox
Do thrift stores count?
Dominic Bennett
i found some unbelievably rare shit at End Of An Ear not too long ago. i'm talking out-of-print stuff still shrink-wrapped and fairly priced. i'm sure record stores will be completely gone in my lifetime so i'll support them the best i can while they're still around
Anthony Sanchez
Sorta-ish? They at least have cheap stuff.
Luis Phillips
That's where I get a bulk of my records. Thrift Stores and Flea Markets. Usually for cents.
Sebastian Wright
>be me many years ago >in a bazaar with my big brother >we had a cd player and a few things to play there >my brother had a bunch of metal cd's at the time >all burned from friends of him or bought cheaper at the bazaar because we weren't really wealthy >pass by a guy selling cd's >something catches my eye >it's pic related >my brother notices >"you like that one user?" >I don't even know what that was >"I've heard it millions of times, it's great" >I don't know what to say >My brother buys the cd, with designs in it, golden and a tracklist >I'm blown away by it, all I saw was burned cd's with marker names >we get back home >he lets me use the cd player >I play the album for the first time >First the slow intro, the the absolute tom fuckery filled with energy >All I do for days straigh is play that album >I play it to the point it's scratched as fuck and doesn't work properly anymore >My brother had it burned without me noticing >keep blasting ride the lighthing I still keep that old cd around, it's my lucky charm, that's how I got into metal and music in general

Record store employee, AMA

Used to live just a couple blocks away from there. EM > Music Millennium though, I have to say
Carson Gomez

Noah Baker
Got any stories? Like weird people and shit?
Josiah Lewis
Do you like your job?
Leo Ortiz
tfw record store employee asks me for recommendations after I sold some of my CDs at their place
Brandon Parker
This one is actually pretty well known where I live, and has been around for a long time.
Benjamin Miller
Sounds like a story with me, my dad played this and frail words collapsed in his truck. Was like the first CD I actually fell in love with. I was digging threw old burned cds yesterday, throwing away stuff I have pirated. But I saw this album burnt on a green CD, reminded me of all the times playing it. Just a different feel playing it on the CD still, then just listening to it on spotify. Like you said a lucky charm and memento, of when I really got into metal.

What's the worst record you've seen someone buy?
Jackson Lopez
If you guys are ever in Colorado springs, swing by Independent records. They have like 5 locations in the city and they have ridiculous selections and prices( when I say ridiculous,I mean I found magical mystery tour and led zeppelin 2 in a dollar bin in vg+ conditions)
Nathan Miller
It's Portland, everyone judges everyone.
Ian Richardson
Yeah, I prefer MM's atmosphere, but god damn does EM have a great selection.
Jace Reed
Lots of weirdos, mexican metal dudes that expect special treatment, people visiting from south america that buy hundreds-thousands of dollars worth of records/box sets and pay with cash, also demanding discounts for buying a lot of shit. We also get lots of edgy sperglords that probably browse this board taking dates to the store and shit..
I like it but my boss is an asshole. It's a cool job but should be cooler. I also make jack shit
blue board :/
We sold around 40 copies of the 2 LP double Picture Disk $44 press of Taylor Swift's Reputation the first weekend that it came out. Awful.
Samuel Morris
>Buying music that came out after the 90s on Vinyl You poor bastard.
Eli Watson
fucking love browsing the CD racks at Music Millennium op, they've got like a trillion of 'em
needs more cassettes tho only place I've been to that has cheap cassettes in bulk is Variety Records (formerly Variety Shop) on Foster
John Martinez
Try Everyday Music, they have s o f u c k i n g m a n y
Ethan Cruz
I'll give them a shot, I think I popped into the DT location once upon a time but the Sandy location looks bigger, like I could dedicate a whole afternoon to it
Asher Cox
You sure can.
Christian Evans
that's a blast from the past I always liked MM but usually wound up going to Djangos then Powells (then Weinhards)
Anthony Robinson
The new end of an ear sucks. The old store had a shit ton of punk and metal records but the new store is mostly indie shit like they're trying to be waterloo.
Joseph Morgan
yeah, they definitely downsized the punk and metal. i really miss the old location
Jacob Harris
Damn, a lot of Portland anons in here. I'm an EM man, I find MM to be a bit expensive.
Angel Fisher
Where's a sharethread? I want Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" but all links are fucking dead. And one jackass shared a mega but not the decription key the stupid motherfucker
Owen Sullivan
What was your biggest sale?
Levi Ross
RIP Other Music (NYC)
It was such a nice place, not the biggest selection, but they did have their share of "out" stuff, and their used section was underrated. Generation Records is nice, though, haven't gone there in a while.
Adrian Hall
Dude, the album is like $1.50 used online, how broke is yo' ass?
Asher Ramirez
Bitch where. Post real legitimate proof and link that shit. You're lying. Prove me wrong and I'll let you blow me
Tyler Lewis
music millennium is good. check out blackwater records some time, hidden gem
Fucking torrent it you fucking pleb, it's an incredibly easy album to find. Stop shitting up this thread because you're too stupid to find music on your own.
Jack Lopez
Mods Torrenting is for hackers and criminals wanting SEED like this sicko, MODS, enjoys
My local record store in Madison charges a shit ton for outdated forms of music. I mean, $30 for a record from the 80s? Give me a break. CDs are expensive there, too.
Isaac Garcia
music millennium is dope, i like crossroads and exiled too
Michael Gray
I don't have any record stores by me besides Barnes and Noble and FYE. The closest used places are like an hour drive.
Dominic Johnson
the jazz section at my local record store is always picked over. however, if you're looking for a specific record from an rock/folk/whatever artist you can usually find it
Jace Reyes
Portland people should also check out 2nd Ave Records. I think people avoid it because it looks like a dumb band t-shirt store for tourists from the outside. Real good for punk and metal.
It's hard to argue with Everyday Music though.
Camden Mitchell
neat story
Joshua Howard
>tfw your local record store is also the biggest
Rockaway, Freakbeat, Record Surplus and CD Trader are other in the LA area I enjoy visiting. Flea markets and Goodwills are also awesome places to pick up CDs
Kayden Myers

My local record shop is Sifters, it's pretty great but it's a bit small. Usually they will only have one or two things I'm looking for, but I still go there anyway, it's pretty comfy. I think it was mentioned in an Oasis song too, which makes sense with it being Manchester and all.
Daniel Ortiz
shakermaker. "mr sifter sold me songs when i was just sixteen; now he stops at traffic lights, but only when they're green. "
