The truth.
good one
Yeah besides being totally disconnected from reality, you're spot on OP
tell me why? everything I said is hard to debate against.
I like her better, too, but her music wouldn't exist without Dylan
And Dylan's wouldn't exist without ancient men banging rocks.
Bob Dylan, in his youth, was considered very attractive, for starters.
I would fuck earlier Dylan. When his hair looked like that he wasn't attractive anymore.
Great lyricist but I can't for the life of me bear listening to her screeching for a full album.
I like Joanna way more but this seems pretty imcomparable. But to be fair I know little more than the average smcho about Dylan so go figure.
I like both of them but it took me to time to get used to Dylan's goat singing. Joanna's screeching hooked me from the start.
Joanna Newsom is so so so far from reaching the heights achieved by this masterpiece that it's not even funny. Comparing them is a pathetic endeavour.
This is his most overrated album.
And this is his best.
No that's the pretentious pick. This is his best.
>No that's the pretentious pick.
But I didn't post Highway 61.
No that's the retard pick.
>Better Lyricist
I actually agree but I think that's very debatable and most people wouldn't agree with us.
>Better singer
Agree here too. This one is probably more of a 50/50 among most people here.
>Every album has been 10/10
No. MEM is at best a 9 and I think Divers is so uneven even an 8 is pushing it. That said, I like Ys more than any of Dylan's albums (it's my favorite of all time) and unlike Dylan she's never released absolute garbage. On the other hand, Dylan's great albums alone outnumber Joanna's entire discography.
>Plays an instrument
So does Dylan.
>More emotion
Agreed but I think Dylan often benefits from being less emotional since his lyrics tend toward the critical and the surreal.
>Didn't write fake lyrics to sell to hippies for the first five albums.
Technically true lol but I think you may be underrating early Dylan, even if most people overrate early Dylan.
>Attractive
Can't argue with you there.
Pic unrelated, that's Lady Gaga.
>Agree here too. This one is probably more of a 50/50 among most people here.
For people who like both I don't see how can you even compare the two. Joanna is obviously a much better singer.
>No. MEM is at best a 9 and I think Divers is so uneven even an 8 is pushing it. MEM is a 9.5 and Divers is at least an 8. Would an 8 equal four stars out of five?
>So does Dylan.
Debatable
> I think you may be underrating early Dylan,
I like it but it's not as powerful when you know the words mean nothing and it's just for cash and fame.
>Joanna is obviously a much better singer.
She obviously has a better range, but the vocal quality is more subjective
>MEM is a 9.5
So not a 10
>Divers is at least an 8
So not a 10
>Debatable
Objectively true. If you want to argue she's better at harp and piano than he is at harmonica and guitar then fine but that's a different discussion.
>it's just for cash and fame.
Proofs?
>Proofs?
Alex Jones
Balanced, grounded, reasonable responses puke go away
Are you the same guy?
Yes
do NOT post the piano webM
You don't get it
>the vocal quality is more subjective
eh
>So not a 10
A Joanna 8 is a normal 10.
>Objectively true
Obviously he plays an instrument. That's as far as it goes though.
>Proofs?
So you agree the lyrics were fake but you don't think he did for cash and fame. What else?
?
No I think the lyrics were greatly inferior to his later lyrics and he was hitching himself onto a preexisting movement but I don't think that's any more sinister than what all musicians do to make a living (except, like, avant-garde street performers).
boring country/blues goat sounds that sound the same but better on his other albums?
I would compare what he did to a filmmaker making superhero movies just because he knows its the cool thing and obviously what comes with this is fame and money. Except everyone looks up to him as a important and powerful superhero lover which makes it even worse.
It's a shit analogy. I'm bad at this. It doesn't matter. He wrote folk lyrics because he knew it's the best way to make money and the best way to get fame. He didn't believe in what he was writing but faked it anyways and kept doing it.
I don't think you can compare his early career as a protest songwriter to a capeshit director, it's more like a guy who wants to direct arthouse dramas but ends up making political documentaries for a few years because it's easier to get into.
Yeah but it's like a communist making political documentaries for conservatives because there is more money in it.
Joanna is for feeling men. Dylan is for thinking men.
But I don't think he was specifically opposed to the views he expressed in his political music (until later when he became a born-again Christian), it just wasn't what he was really passionate about.
Yet he still became the unwilling “voice of a generation” and will still be more relevant than whoever is in the OP
If he didn’t care about politics why did he play at the “I have a dream” speech?
What was "My Back Pages"?
I can't tell if you're just pretending to be a retarded teenager or you're actually a retarded teenager
He didn’t like being the voice of a generation, and he was tired of being a hippie. He didn’t go back on what he had said about civil rights and war, he just didn’t want to express his views anymore. So he decided to make folk songs that were more personal, and then make rock music.
i'm a retarded teenager but am i wrong?
Dylan’s albums sound really different, maybe you haven’t listened to them enough. He has pure country with Johnny cash, political folk songs, and fast paced rock n roll
>"Flung down by corpse evangelists"
>"A self-ordained professor’s tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
“Equality,” I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow"
No I understand that but I was saying in Blonde on Blonde the songs sound the same. No variation.
You forgot to mention that she has an extremely nice ass.
post your favorite. im too lazy to look in the 948 images of her I have in a folder for the best one.
i don't have any pictures of her saved but i just remember that when i saw her live i wanted to sniff her sweaty anus
How is it debatable? Dylan played the guitar and harmonica. There's no debate there. You're just being contrarian.
i wish i knew of her when she was still touring. now she has a baby and won't tour for a long time.
It was a joke. I was saying he wasn't good at it.
Yes. First of all, calling it "country" is completely wrong. It's got blues influence for sure, but also a lot of folk influence carried over from his earlier work. Most of all, thrown in is the sound of good old traditional rock n roll. The songwriting is pitch perfect throughout the entire album. Saying the songs "all sound the same" is such a silly criticism to use for this album because every song is so well written that it becomes a moot point. Are you seriously telling me a fun poppy jaunt like I Want You sounds like the swinging, dirty raunch of Pledging My Time or the gorgeous folky ballad of Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands? Have you even listened to the album?
...
cute
this, you're fucking retarded
Joanna is brilliant, but to say she's a better than Dylan is absurd.
>Dylan has more 10/10 records than Joanna.
>Dylan is arguably a better singer than Joanna. Her certainly has more range.
>Dylan plays two instruments
>If Dylan's early lyrics are fakes, they're the most persuasive fakes of all time
>Dylan reinvented himself from album to album, embodying many different personalities over the years and enshrining himself as rock's first chameleonic performer (inspiring the transformations of Bowie along the way).
I can see the point of contact between Dylan and Joanna. Both are intensely individualistic songwriters with the ability to produce incredibly elaborate, abstruse lyrics. Both are extremely talented, yet idiosyncratic singers, so much so that many listeners are put off by the sound of their voice. You could almost make the case that Joanna is the female Dylan, but she's never been able to reinvent herself the way he has.
