billy ray cyrus like always

Nigger music.

Underage newfags constanly spamming lame memes

...

MBDTF getting a 10 from pitchfork, something changed in the user base after that, the types of people that were coming in were more prone to trolling and bullshit. I think the cracks were there pre-2010, but MBDTF got a 10, this place seemed to go to shit. Not really recovered since.

Death Grips memes

The same reason every other board dipped in quality

But it was the US elections and Pepe.
Too much new people.

Daddy what was classic Sup Forums like?

...

Running out of good music + lefty/normy memes.

music in general. this board used to be so good. daily sharethreads. genuine music discussion. pretentious yet funny trips. this board was one of the first on Sup Forums to become a parody of itself though and now it's simply eating itself. it's not sustainable. a lot like the music industry.

The mainstream surge of trap and hypebeast mentality

This

-lack of trips & lack of trip culture (blame /daily/ and Anonymous for this one)
-idol worship
-underage posters
-whatever godawful form of post-post-post-ironic shitposting is the norm
-death of sharethreads
-brain drain
-larger userbase

there will never be a shortage of good music, look past Sup Forumscore and that will be perfectly clear

ancient oldfag here

the demographics of the internet killed Sup Forums, just like it killed everything else that was great about the internet in general. most people had a posting style that was primarily influenced by message boards and chat rooms that were heavily moderated, where participating in "flamewars" was a ban-able offense, where shitposting in the slightest was also ban-able, and new users were pretty much hazed, screened, and/or ignored. this training toward constructive discussion created a much more mature and geek-friendly internet culture everywhere.
alas, the internet got much younger, less educated, much more racially diverse, had no concept of old internet culture, and the posts are made more in the style of a smartphone text than an email.
it's been a gradual decrease in quality as the internet has grown in popularity, which is a shame. the geek culture has pretty much left, and anti-intellectual 2nd worlders who beat up geeks a generation ago have taken its place.

Nothing a music board needs more than a majority of musically illiterate posters, who are encouraged to remain illiterate. Do you think any of the other threads you've mentioned would've get bumped if more people genuinely cared about music and had to say something more than "it's shit"?
