lol you're me for the first year i was learning guitar. the novelty will wear off and you'll want to apply some theory eventually. not that alt tunings are incompatible with theory at all but it means finding new voicings for every chord, which in turn means it takes a long ass time to write anything.

Open E with a double drop G# (G#-E-B-G#-B-G#) and open D (D-A-D-F#-A-D) are really neat tunings though. And I know there are some other cool open ones used in emo/math rock.
