Someone made a comparison between those songs and JM, they aren't the same, and they aren't blatant rip-offs at all. If that's the case then everybody who ever made a synthpop record is guilty of a degree of plagiarism, which I don't believe for a second.
Also, JM makes a point of making his pop songs catchy and full of hooks, it's part of his weird pop music manifesto
I'm not saying those songs are bad, they aren't - they just aren't what a John Maus fan would be looking for
