It's a mediocre movie.
You have to love what you parody. Brooks loved studio westerns and Universal horror and it shows in Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. The Zuckers loved disaster movies and cop shows and it shows in Airplane and Naked Gun.
Spaceballs is Brooks seeing Star Wars once and realizing he could make a million off of it because it was a cultural phenomenon.
