Post some clips or music you’ve made?

I wish I knew how modular synthesis works. Seems interesting to get into but it also seems pretty dense.

When I start making decent money I want to build a nice modular setup. $200+ for each component is way too expensive for me atm.

Visit Muffwiggler.com and in modular synth general discussion forum there are MANY informative threads for beginners.

Look into diy, check out Modularaddict.com, Thonkuk, etc. and build your own for fraction of cost

I have most of Make Noise's modules. They make some fun stuff.

modular synthesis is the easiest way to learn synthesis because it avoids menus, among other things. I use my eurorack setup to teach special education high school students how to make music.

Do you feel odd bringing thousands of dollars of equipment to school?

Do you have a video you can recommend for an intro into synthesis?

no, why? It sits on my desk or is locked in my cabinet till after school and despite working in a rough ass part of chicago, i have no concerns about my kids using my equipment and learning.

download free VCVrack it is pretty nice

I don't know how useful this series will be, but check these out youtube.com/watch?v=h9tMFyKxbrI

if you can understand the basics like an oscillator [repeating audio wave that has different shapes and sounds], filter [remove frequencies you dont want], amp, envelopes and LFO, you'll be fine.

I guess I'm just a bit paranoid. I really respect what you're doing :)

my nibba

I am a eurorack man myself

Gotta say I’m pretty into CL lately, but I’m into euro too. Been working a lot with the Folktek Mescaline patching into and out of their Resist, Matter, and Conduit. Still haven’t gotten into the breadboard on Mental.

And then there’s this

not bad
it's a shame the guy behind the company is such an immature asshat though

More CL

>mfw 2 years into eurorack and just learned about using VCA output for FM on an Oscillator.

Yeah, I love his gear but had to deal with him once and he was pretty dismissive but ultimately took a module back and modified it for free.

in response to all your delightful gear pr0n this is my eurorack as it stands (r8, h8, whatever)

still hope to pick up some CL sometime; innovative (!), peter b's such a cool guy and as a fellow baltimoron it's quite cool to see one building synths

Just go on modulargrid.com and start putting together a system without any knowledge. As you read about each module you can start to understand how things work. Also, mylar melodies and divkid are really helpful youtube channels for modular. Once you get the basics it's very easy to understand. There are a few basic kinds of signals - gate/trigger(basically the same thing), CV, and audio. These signals all have voltage levels. Voltage levels control things in modular world. Once you learn the terminology it's not really that complex at all.

you can try to learn all you want before getting into modular, but it doesn't click until you are actually making a patch.

And when it does click, you'll realize you need a much bigger case.

Nice, I’m in love with Whimsical Raps. If you can score Just Friends for a good price highly r3commended. I spent last year building all of Peter’s paper circuits, was a ton of fun. Still need to figure out how I want to house them but for now I’ve got most of them rigged up with banana jacks.

Here’s a two of the Fourses and the Intersexon, they are wild.

is the lure for pamela's workout just that it's 6 modifiable triggers without all the extra hp?

In the new version, not just triggers but also skewable LFOs, decay envelopes, and stepped random voltages with essentially all parameters voltage-controllable. I was skeptical at first since I didn't gel well at all with the menus on Mutable's Braids (first module I got rid of) but it's absolutely killer in its own right (not just as a space or cost-saving measure).

oh didn't know that's what the new one did, that does seem pretty versatile
