Shoegaze is the peak of rock music. You can deny it, but you'll only be lying to yourself.

Oi is the best punk easily

noise rock
psychadelic rock
garage rock
noise punk
acid rock

Post Hardcore

zolo

>pro-tip
The fuck does that even mean

>Baby discovered post-punk
Post-punk is cool. It gets old though and then you start looking for something more. There are only few definitive post-punk bands and the rest are just copying those bands.
You got to expand to Flying Nun Records. New Zealand indie has produced some of the best music there. It includes post-punk, tween and everything in between.
You're falling a victim of being buried in all these meaningless tags... Most of this shit is pretty much the same as post-punk. Increase overdrive on your pedals and you get noise rock. It's all the same.

math rock

i can’t

only good albums on this are oingo boingo and devo
rest is complete garbage

>the rest are just copying those bands
yeah but the copycats are still pretty good, not like shoegaze where everybody just makes loveless 2: electric boogaloo

what do you consider the definitive post-punk bands?

Correct.

Literally this^

this is from my favourite live performance of all time. Ian really screams in this

unironically indie rock

Midwest Emo

>Post-post-punk

I can't

Isn't shoegaze just drone with fancier guitars?

...

Why is Antichrist Superstar *raises spork* core?

>It gets old though and then you start looking for something more. There are only few definitive post-punk bands and the rest are just copying those bands.

What? There is so much variety and styles of post-punk, part of the reason why I love it so much. Talking Heads, Pere Ubu, This Heat, Wire, XTC, The Feelies, Christian Death, Orange Juice etc. all widely different.

You've got the obv melancholic stuff, dance-punk, no wave, gothic punk, synthy punk, new wavey post-punk. You even acknowledge this in your post with the point about meaningless tags.

...

...

jangle pop
country rock

The only good album here is Frizzle Fry

This, shoegaze was perfection.

Thread should have ended here.

PS slowdive is the best shoegaze band

are you new?

The level of plebery in this thread is fucking disgusting

Can you really consider all those post-punk? Some of it is just new wave like XTC or Talking Heads. I think for post-punk it has to have elements of primitivism/punk. The lines are so blurry that someday you would understand it doesn't really matter what you tag it as. I like bands and music that defies genre limitations and stands on its own. Many of those are.

Like these guys for example that I stumbled on recently: breadonbread.bandcamp.com/album/pop-grave-basic-sharpie
Parts of their songs can be considered post-punk, parts can be twee/noise-rock/psychedelic. Genre frames are limiting.

It's black metal you idiots

what are these, im not getting any results with reverse image search

>new wave
>not post-punk
christ

Grunge and crust are the GOAT
Sludge as well. Power electronics and power violence are the shit.

Pere Ubu are avant-garage, tho.

Sonicrime Therapy by GISM, you fucking pleb.

soy

You are idiot if you consider new wave post-punk. With that logic fucking Muse is also post-punk and your grandma on bongos is also post-punk? Everything is post-punk, man.

If it's Mark Smith and your granny on bongos, it IS post punk

I know they're similar, but they're clearly different. If you think Talking Heads belongs in the same delineated category as Suicide and The Fall, you're a fuckin retard

name 10 great shoegaze acts

you are right. I was looking if someone recognizes the greatest post-punk band of them all

>54 posts
>no mention of Canterbury prog
the literal STATE of Sup Forums

Is this now a Fall thread

its actually crust punk

Post-Hardcore

Nothing beats Fugazi and Unwound.

what about the other one

go actually listen to Talking Heads and then come back

Suicide wouldn't be post-punk either by any standards. It's very much proto-punk, but even in sound it lacks angularity. Something like Modern Lovers were closer to what widely considered to be post-punk later on

Great argument.

harsh noise wall

extratone

blackened midi

these are all end game genres

Ironically this is exactly what I should have said in the first place. If you really think even the darkest Talking Heads songs can compare to post punk, again, you're a fuckin retard

I legitimately didn't know that Mark E died earlier this year, I must not have been on mu for a few days when it happened. What a fuckin bummer man, a true legend

Is Joy Division's music so bleak and boring because it's an accurate depiction of life in England? Genius if so.

imagine giving this much of a shit about genre tags
no wonder this board is one huge circlejerk

Love his music, but he wasn't looking good in the past 10 years. More surprised he lived as long as he had.

emo

correct

:)

ignore the redditor. he only wants (((your))) upvote

Holy shit I love spork-core now
Thanks forum the recs

good post

Consider the following:
>It's not a real genre.
It's an umbrella term created for hipsters listening to goth new wave, to feel special.

i can: synthpop.

>kraftwerk, the human league, thomas dolby, new order, gary numan, ladytron, the knife, fever ray, chvrches, omd, new musik, ultravox, telex, ann steel, solid space, depeche mode, propaganda, yazoo, royksopp, iamamiwhoami, crystal castles, goldfrapp, grimes, la roux, computer magic, wolfsheim, robyn, john maus, vnv nation, tears for fears, soft cell, japan, yellow magic orchestra, art of noise, covenant, polica, purity ring, john foxx, lorde, sparks, talk talk, yello, the blue nile, mesh, ashbury heights, nite jewel, hot chip, susanne sundfor, erasure, stan ridgway, m83, alphaville, oppenheimer analysis, emika, karin park, rotersand, apoptygma berzerk

beat this.

Too much of the genre is noodling around with experimental stuff. It's great to listen to as a musician as a learning experience, but otherwise it's mostly shit.

you're right I can't

I mean it's basically a branch of post-punk

>I mean it's basically a branch of post-punk
by that logic most rock music after punk is a branch of punk

right, that's accurate

Post-punk is one of the most dense, varied genres in the world and if you think it bears any resemblance to noise rock you don't know what you're talking about.

Loveless is the only great album in the genre, the rest is a bunch of faggots whining over some mundane instrumentation.

I unironically fucking hate this genre and I'll never get what people like about it. Loveless is trash in my ears.

unironically this.

>avant-garage is an actual genre guise!!
Stop trying so hard. He's right.

I fucking hate Fugazi, but I'll be damned if that's not the best and most accurate band photo in existence

rock died in 1967, the rest is pure manierism

Noise rock is definitely related to post-punk. I know genre is dumb with few exceptions, but those exceptions are fantastic anyway.

Not my job to educate people who don't understand new wave and post-punk are part of the same continuum

irrelevant. Quantity =/= Quality

This guy knows

new order is leagues beyond any post punk three chord noise

Yeah Elvis Presley is also post-punk yo. Also check out this great post-punk band The Beatles

Those are not new wave acts
See, you don't even see what new wave is
Or you're trying to make a joke and failing miserably

No doug that's post-punk yo. Marilyn Manson - another great post-punk band

fpbp

maybe some bands in the genre are really good but in general it's too gimmicky
