I still don't quite understand why I really like some black metal, but can't stand almost all other forms of metal. The other music I listen to is either completely electronic or really ambient and peaceful. Sometimes I worry about my mental health. Or maybe it's just that everyone has two sides to them, dunno

I think it's more the rawness of the emotion that attracts me to it yes. There's no real pretense, at least in good black metal. A lot of the other metal I've come across is more concerned with portaying this pseudo dark image rather than expressing raw, real dark feelings

I keep realizing more and more how, regardless of how ridiculous their outlook or how "satyrical" their whole shtick are, Immortal have constantly been putting out incredibly tight and authentic black metal throughout their whole running years that sounds exactly how black metal is supposed to, never losing track of their style and developing its pureness while mastering it. Abbath's solo debut was incredibly good, too, and I'm really curious to see how they'll sound without him on this new record they're gonna be putting out this year.

It's an admirable and brilliant album, but it is more technical than emotional, which as a general matter BM needs to be. Prometheus is even more technical and distancing. Great albums but hard to fully embrace.
