they were memed about a lot when sunbather came out, people have stopped caring now tho
i think they're alright. not as terrible as ~true kvlt~ metalfags will have believe but not as great as p4k and everyone who echoed their opinion will tell you either
as far as hipster metal goes, i always thought deafheaven was just alcest with training wheels

the drummer is pretty kool. obviously the most talented in the group

drummer is good but other than that they're fucking awful

kerry is really talented too. the composition on this album is pretty amazing at times and i assume it was mostly him writing it. plus you never see either of the guitarists playing sloppy live and some of their riffs are pretty tricky, or tough to sustain for as long they do.
but yeah dan tracy is one of the most impressive drummers i've seen and he added a whole lot to this album.

this was their peak and they'll never come close to reaching it again. they're all excellent musicians but everything they're doing now suggests a sheer decline in their taste. i think there are moments of poor taste on sunbather and roads as well, but less and it's easier to forget about them.
they shouldn't have tried so hard to be metal imo. it was mostly their post-rock stuff with the emo vocals that made them shine.

the singer is one of the biggest douchebags in existence. i cringed so fucking hard at his moves and general attitude when i saw them live. also he doesn't fit in the band, everyone else looks like a geeky nice guy but this fucking jock of a singer. i'm sure he's a former myspace emo who was suddenly into black metal.

sunbather is a modern classic

Deafheaven sounds like some indie kids who only listened to Burzum and Darkthrone once and thought "Hey we can do this too"

i disagree, their vocals get really old for me ad the album ends up sounding too similar

typical american listening to anything in another language. why are americans such trash?
