Ive never paid much attention to metal as such until recently. Listened to a little Arkona for a bit, but mainly into grunge.
Then I got click baited into watching a WatchMojo thing about the best Metal Bands, which was topped by Balck Sabbath. This led to most influential metal albums, topped by black sabbath - black sabbath. then best ever metal albums, topped by paranoid, ozzy as best front man etc.
So I bought a few of their albums, (the first 6 they released) and it is like a whole new world has been opened up to me. This is better music than any of the shit ive listened to in the past.
What other bands should I try out? Iron Maiden? Megadeth?

You can mostly ignore Iron Maiden, first two albums are decent but nothing out of this world and the rest is Judas Priest worship with a shitty singer.

Venom is not the top of the top but if you like early Venom chances are you'll like early Black and Death Metal, it's logic by elimination, listening to Sabbath, Priest, Venom and Motörhead is the easiest way to figure what you like the most and pursue the bands that were directly influenced by them then enlarge your horizons.

But power does improve on trad, even though it is more overtly catchy it has generally far more detailed instrumental work. It moves faster, has more layers, takes guitars and vocals to a whole nother level (with many singers being classically trained).
