It's really more like cargo ship crew than truckers. I know it's basically the same concept, but here you have ranks and more responsibility.
Not sure if I'd do in the Alien's setting, but definitely in Star Wars. Except Star Wars makes it a bit too easy because even with Class 4 or 5 engines, traversing the galaxy only takes a few days max.
