I hope so, goth girls are my fetish

How many fans does Chelsea Wolfe have at this point?

11

pale waves is probably the biggest attempt at bringing goth back but it's also the most corporate and artistically stillborn
all modern post-punk sucks dick too so nothing of value will likely be lost

Depends on what era of goth you mean.

real goth qt's dont exist anymore feels bad dude

Resurgence of traditional industrial when

but they dont even sound like goth

Goth was dead by 2010

Is that enough for a scene? If she can't make it happen then it's probably over.

Just let it die with dignity

I hope never.
Best gothic rock is from 90's and gothic metal is from early 2000s.

Name some

Will it ever leave? New England fag here and it never has left. Even the term Goth is still used unironically.

Everything I like is good.

By what do you like?

It's fucking dead in the UK, which is the only place that matters for musical subcultures.

I sure fucking hope not
Mephisto Walz, Faith and The Muse,
Inkubus Sukubbus, The Sisters of Mercy,
Two Witches
I think Goth has a really good chance of recurring in little ways here and there or as mixed genre shit desu. I've a couple goth-y singles from some bands who aren't really getting much attention but are definitely making quality stuff. Also little dark age was goth-y

Can you share the names?
Morke (same guy from The Sins of Thy Beloved) published a full album last month and I found it pretty solid, not groundbreaker but solid.

all I can remember off the top of my head is up that hill by lyfe indoors, can't really remember the rest though. Just some stuff I discovered on a kick one day like a year ago desu

[Bela Lugosi is still dead]

the aesthetic: yeah. it kind of already is.
the sound: no way. there's still some bands flirting with it, though (iceage is pretty much a nick cave tribute band now). i think there's a good chance darkwave might make a comeback, though.

What the fuck is darkwave

I know I might get hate for this, but Little Dark Age carries much of a 'goth' sound in it (disregard the video)

it already did and yes it will come back again because that's how 2010s pop culture is

A lot of the album does. Well, not a lot. But a decent bit of it does. When You Die is dark synthpop.

Possible with the next little dark age.

The idea that MGMT are bringing back goth seems wrong

goth died in 1991

the new season of Stranger Things which is set in 1985 has a new girl character that's "alternative" if that means Goth which it probably does then the style will come back.

dark wave lives on through an infinite amount of shitty bandcamp bands

Goth died in the late 90's.
The death nail and final peak of goth was marylin manson.

The goth look is still popular but i cant seem to find any goth music anywhere.

You look at these dumb cunts dressing like goths and listening to fucking paramore or some shit. sorry pale waves.

I dont see any bands ripping off the killing joke, Bauhaus, christian death, alien sex fiend, sisters of mercy, siouxsie and the banshees.
These fuckers arent even ripping off the cure.

Goth isnt music anymore, its a look.

My personal hot take is that goth should come back in the form of folk.
folk punk seemed to take off pretty good this decade.
Why come people cant make folk goth?
I want to see some vampires playing an acoustic.

It would be unique and different too

Yeah. Goth's totally ded... "rolls eyes"

youtu.be/U2ap_Zpi9SM

ITT kids that live in small towns and because of that believe the goth scene died

goth and industrial are different things you absolute fucking ass goblin.

Also if i wanted to listen to nin i would listen to nin

>the soft moon is industrial

kek

desu i don't think goth rises again unless there is a terrible catastrophe that activates a similar existential nihilism. Joy division, early cure, Siouxsie, etc all probably didn't exist without all of the same sources of inspiration.

Still though, kinda like what Team Sesh and Ghostmayne are doing (also, Danny Brown with Atrocity Exhibition). I think they are the closest to bringing back anything resembling goth to popularity.

Goth and industrial are intertwined

Yawn

youtu.be/jILV2bOemmg

Totally industrial

>danny brown

niggers plz leave this thread

>unless there is a terrible catastrophe that activates a similar existential nihilism

It's called "social media"

autists plz leave this thread

What's the best though song?

If i knew how to make music i would just rip off the killing joke but combine it with shoegaze.

8.5 BNM
goth is bag baby

I'm not agreeing with him, but it's a stretch to call that sort of stuff goth

I would listen to this

youtu.be/TFcGLAfNwSs

How is goth even defined?

I mean, goth music isn't just post-punk and industrial music, a lot of it about aesthetic and tapping into an existential angst, which all of those artists I mentioned do. You're probably not going to find a modern artist that taps into a similar sound in 2018 but you will find that similar aesthetic applied to newer musical styles.

Possibly, but will you want it to these days? I'm very glad the waifufags shilling pale waves didn't get anywhere (i hope) because that is apparently the closest nowadays.

Out of curiosity, would something like this be classed as goth?

youtube.com/watch?v=g2plyfz_v9g

Or is this more industrial?

The goth subculture is a youth subculture that began in England during the early 1980s where it developed from the audience of gothic rock, an offshoot of the post-punk genre. Seminal post-punk and gothic rock artists that helped develop and shape the subculture include Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, and Bauhaus. The goth subculture, whose name derived directly from the music genre, has survived much longer than others of the same era, and has continued to diversify and spread throughout the world. Its imagery and cultural proclivities indicate influences from the 19th century Gothic literature and gothic horror films. The scene is centered on music festivals, nightclubs and organized meetings, especially in Western Europe.

The subculture continues to draw interest from a large audience decades after its emergence.
The Goth subculture of the 1980s drew inspiration from a variety of sources. Some of them were modern or contemporary, others were centuries-old or ancient. Michael Bibby and Lauren M. E. Goodlad liken the subculture to a bricolage.[26] Among the music subcultures that influenced it were Punk, New wave, and Glam.[26] But it also drew inspiration from B movies, Gothic literature, horror films, vampire cults, Neo-noir science fiction films such as Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, and traditional mythology. Among the mythologies that proved influential in Goth were Celtic mythology, Christian mythology, Egyptian mythology, and various traditions of Paganism

lmao

It definitely has Gothic elements... dirge like and dark but not pure Goth no. The trumpet parts definitely not. Cool track though. Dug it.

>tfw closet goth

I want it to come back but I don't want to actually be involved with any of it because it's kind of embarrassing.

The music, I hope so. The sub culture no.
And when I say the music I mean stuff like Cure and stuff like the Sisters here and there.

What's the genre where it's sort of goth rock/metal but with electronic elements? I want that to come back.

There is a ton of goth music right now.
youtube.com/watch?v=LvjysCVChyM

They just don't dress like final fantasy characters in ICP face paint anymore.

>Witch house

...

Pale Waves have about as much to do with Goth as The Spice Girls.

witchhouse isnt goth and that garbage was cool for like 2 seconds in 2013

Like this? youtube.com/watch?v=qWO20a6a5bw
Is there even a name for this in particular? I mean you either call it gothic metal or industrial rock with synthpop thrown in, but I don't think it's an actual established genre.

This thread has made me revisit some of the shit I used to listen to years ago while I was balls deep in darkwave. Fuck man, this is a nostalgia kick in the balls.

Yeah, exactly like that. I loved that trash as a teenager. There's something so catchy about it.

The krauts were really good at it youtube.com/watch?v=qZb_HkNBo-w

>I loved that trash as a teenager
I still do.

Bands like pale waves are almost offensively corporate and generic. It makes you irrationally angry that they dress like that but make the most stale top 40 pop rock

Im really glad lil peep died so he couldnt ruin both goth and emo by niggerfying it

It seems to me goth has been fully ruined and commodifed by capitalism and lost whatever original ethos or sound it once had.
Its now a costume you can buy,

We need things to come full circle.

The trouble about goth becoming "big" is that it's fundamentally at odds with the ideal of the subculture.

>The trouble about goth becoming "big" is that it's fundamentally at odds with the ideal of the subculture.

Not at all, many goth bands had a great deal of chart success. The Cure, The Cult and The Sisters Of Mercy were massive arena bands at the peak of their popularity.
The Banshees, Nick Cave and Killing Joke also had periods of strong crossover into the pop charts.

Are industrial and goth the same or different? When I used to be into rhythmic noise I found that most of the subculture was the same.

youtube.com/watch?v=tC7DMxd9XmI

I don't think we'll ever see that sort of music return. It's far too mid 2000s.

Good shit

Waste are amazing. Edgy as hell, but they actually make noise which is still music, unlike most noise bands which just drone away.

people who were into industrial were called rivetheads

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivethead

The original rivethead subculture (late-1980s to mid-1990s) was different from the goth subculture in ideological and musical terms, as well as in their visual aesthetics.[19] Confusion regarding the boundaries of those two youth cultures has heightened because of the late-1990s "multi-youth-cultural" cross-hybridization, which has led people to incorrectly believe that rivetheads are an offshoot of the goth subculture or identical to trends such as the rave fashion- and trance music-inspired cybergoth movement. Canadian novelist and author Nancy Kilpatrick labelled this blend "industrial goth",[20] as does Julia Borden.[2] Note: In the heyday of the rivethead culture, the term "industrial goth" as a description of a youth culture did not exist).[21][13][22]

“The 'Industrial look' began to emerge in the late 1980s. […] The typical 'Industrial' guy, circa 1989, was a Punk who liked technology.”
– Julia Borden[2]

“In contrast to the old-style Goth look, which was androgynous, the male 'Industrial look' was tough and military, with a sci-fi edge. The men wore […] band T-shirts, black trousers or military cargo pants in black, military accessories, such as dog-tags, heavy boots […] 'Industrial' women, who were fewer in number, tended to wear waist-cinching corsets, small tank tops or 'wife-beaters' [sleeveless t-shirts], trousers, and sometimes suspenders hanging down off the pants. They also […] sometimes shaved their heads.”
– Valerie Steele, fashion historian and director of MFIT, New York.[2]

Industrial was always better than Goth. You could actually dance to that music.

>Do construction on stage
>Call it music

ok

youtube.com/watch?v=k4uz9m5JZ-0

Fuck that shit. Average pop with black lipstick.

The public image of goth is pretty fucking abysmal at this point, it doesn't surprise me that obviously goth-influenced bands like Iceage and Drab Majesty are still keeping themselves at a distance from the tag.
The only bands that got the look right were the early ones.

EDMfags pls go and stay go

goth is feminine.
Industrial is masculine.

In industrial everyone acts masculine, even the women.
In goth everyone acts feminine, even the men

goth ended before it even started

Which is better though?

You don't really want it back. Trust me.

EBM you mean

Goth moved on a lot after that.

Some of the music is getting a revival at the moment, the style seems to have evolved and disseminated, Infest, WGT, M'era Luna, Whitby, Coldwaves and loads of other big festivals still happen annually. The thing is though that Sub Cultures don't really happen the way they used to post-Internet 2.0., and that's not exclusive to Goth.

Some of those festivals must be on life support by now.

Fuck you. Goth girls aren't a fetish. They're people.

Wrong. I know tons of them. You're not going to the right clubs.

Only some of them are people. Most of them are empty shells with too many problems.

Women aren't people, user

Nah.

Real talk, the only Cure song I knew going into this topic was Friday I'm In Love. So when I saw OP referring to The Cure as goth, I thought it was a joke like we call Evanescence "death metal." Its always funny how the most popular single from a band is a completely different genre than what genre the band is usually associated with.

The Cure had a lot of more cheerful songs. It depends on the album. Disintegration is gothcore.

youtube.com/watch?v=ijxk-fgcg7c

goth transcends music genres

Where to find goth girls in New York

At this point it basically means "wears black"

nice projecting
