Was Matlock a good show? Also, why did it apparently become so popular among geriatrics?

It was okay. Falls into the same pitfall every procedural show does, the formula gets boring. Matlock is a pretty hep-cat though. He's got a smarmy grin right before he nails you.
My favourite episode was when a literal ghost hired him to solve a case.
>Tyler gets the living shit beat out of him
>Manages to crawl back to Ben Matlock
>Ben tells him to go back out there
Know I understand why old people like it.
It's solid. Matlock as a character doesn't really get old even when he's doing the same thing every episode. The show looks nice enough and occasionally does something neat. It's more interesting than the average police procedural. The two-parter assassination episode is cool.
>popular among geriatrics
i always thought that was a meme, like why are there always so many old people in long john silvers, but i dunno there might be some truth to it
>that episode where Diane bets Tyler she can give Matlock a boner but she fails and later sees him get a boner while eating a hotdog
>Also, why did it apparently become so popular among geriatrics?
It's comfy as fuck, procedural structure is easy to get into, Andy Griffith, Banjo playin'... what's not to like?
Matlock is top tier. Ultimate comfy. Best outro music ever
Barnaby Jones > Matlock
Columbo would beat his ass.

People like things they're used to. When current twenty-somethings are in old people's homes, they're still going to be obsessed with F.R.I.E.N.D.S
member the episode with the murder victim and the digital alarm clock
Diagnosis Murder is better
I have a strange attraction to Leanna Macintyre.

>Quasi Perry Mason/Columbo
>Andy Griffith is based
>The elderly relate to the protag
My dad is in his late 60s and he loves Matlock. My honest theory as to why old people love it? Old people are usually tired or fall asleep easily. Matlock moves slowly and follows the procedural rules of reminding the viewers what we've learned so far after each ad-break. You can easily take a 15 minute nap in the middle and still follow/enjoy it.
