Paying college players?

Can someone explain what exactly is going on in the NCAA? Doesn't everyone already know that shady deals are going on to recruit kids to play for their college? Please explain with the government is getting into trouble his now. I'm hearing some coaches can get 80 years prison time.

Has ever been judgment about the free courses college athletes are granted?

Free art classes for college athletes doesn't count.

agreed. if this was about point-shaving or other gambling and rigging, I would be all for an investigation. turns out it's about some agents and shoe companies paying ass't coaches to send their best players their way.

it's nothing in the long run, but will cost some jobs in the short term. couple schools might get a few years probation.

if the FBI wanted to really do something, they would arrest some NCAA officials. not gonna happen.

Pitino gets fired. How long before he gets picked up from another team? Will Louisville get the death penalty IF they fire him?

PAC 12 seems to be hit the hardest so far.

I'm still trying to figure out why the FBI cared enough to investigate. It appears the money was being laundered so uncle Sam wasn't getting his cut but it's still peanuts compared to what usually warrants these investigations.

That being said louisville deserves everything coming to it. They have been running a ridiculously corrupt program for the last 10 years or more. It all started with the athletic director threatening media outlets who write anything bad about them that they would be blacklisted from getting any info from the program. This stopped the media from criticizing any move by the university and the "good boys" who praised there decisions the most got preferential treatment. They created a group of good ole' boys who all had each others back while separating the athletic finances from the university to hide where money was going. They strong armed the city of louisville into a terrible arena deal that profited the school a whole lot and cost the tax payers millions of dollars a year, with a contract that stipulated a professional sports team could not play there (which would have actually benefited the city and taxpayers). This is Rick Pitinos 3rd personal scandal at U of L and all he does is continue to shift blame. Finally the U of L media has had enough and are speaking out. Even after the stripper scandal people defended rick and Jurich (AD). Rick is arrogant enough to believe the city will have his back but he will finally be fired today or tomorrow along with the AD.

Here are my worthless takes:

1. Players should be paid
2. College athletics is beyond saving and needs to be completely revamped, NCAA needs to be blown up
3. It's ridiculous the NFL and NBA get to use these leagues as free training grounds
4. Louisville deserves everything the get, that is a legit sleazeball school

>NC does worse shit and gets off scott free
>all these teams that got caught are going to get a slap on the wrist at most
NCAA needs to fucking removed

Nick Saban and John Calipari's time will come

he'll never get another job again in college basketball
hes old and he has like 3 major scandals over his head

>Please explain with the government is getting into trouble his now
because these are federally funded school employees involved in fraud and bribery.

No, an influential school is never going to receive a death penalty. Take a look at what happened to UNC and Baylor, and they're getting slaps on the wrist.

>Baylor
>influential

Name 3 althletes from that school in the past 10 years other than RGKnee and the tranny wnba player

So whens the banner coming down?

its under appeal
and while under appeal, they decide to funnel $100K to a recruit. That fucker is coming down soon, thats for damn sure.

Saban is much too smart to be involved in it at all..
Alabama has a lot of relatively rich old alum that never leave the state. Their life is football. I'm sure most of the boosters arrange to give cash donations and cars to players themselves.

>UNC does this for a decade
Nothing
>A couple others do it
FUCKING SHIT JAIL THEM NOW

Carolina is playing the long game by obfuscating and self reporting minor infractions to delay the process because the NCAA has to keep adding them to the list and re-evaluate everything.

They just had their COI hearing in August, finally for something that stems from when I was a Junior in college like 6 fucking years ago.

So....what's going to happen with Addidas? What about Nike? They have to have some dirt on their hands. Especially at Oregon

The entire NCAA needs a complete overhaul. College athletics is a scam. Recruiting is a scam. It is a complete farce. These high school kids are too young and blinded to see passed clothing companies and college AD hired prostitutes.

Penn St got the death penalty after diddling kids.

Can't pay students. Won't ever happen. Can't hire and fire those kids. Taxes would be insane. Do you only pay football players and basketball players or all student athletes?

he'll get picked up by some big city G5 team

How long before floida Atlantic pick him up?

There is an answer to this and it's not letting universities pay the students directly. Students should be given the right to their own image and allowed to profit off of it. If a shoe/clothing/whatever company wants to pay a student, because of their popularity, to promote a product they should be allowed to make that money without it jeopardizing their "amaturism". If they want to sell autographs for $10 a pop then let them do it. If they want to monetize a youtube channel about their workout regimine then let them do it. The NCAA currently profits off students and their image and they claim any money that is a result of branding or popularities of athletes or a sport. The NCAA pushed the limit when they pimped out all of the player images to make video games and already lost that battle since they couldn't justify why the profits shouldn't be Going to the players who it was modeled after. Allowing players to profit off of their popularity would solve the problem of having to also pay volley ball and field hockey players. Only the best prospects in the most popular sports would make money but that's what is already happening anyway right? The NCAA is a "non-profit" that happens to profit 6 billion a year while essentially having an army of unpaid interns to take advantage of.

they are actively encouraged not to get a decent degree because it would only take away from their playing ability

fuck off

>Can't pay students
what are commission sales to watch them play
>Can't hire
recruit
>fire
cut
>kids
18+
>Taxes would be insane
relevant how?
>Do you only pay football players and basketball players or all student athletes?
yes because they are the only ones making money

He will join another College team before the start of this season or he'll find a way to stay in L'ville.

Why can't they just pay the players work/study wages for practice time and games?

Reminder the NCAA is initially to blame for not continue the NCAA video game franchises.

Yeah...because they didn't want to keep fighting legal battles after settling a lawsuit they were losing and had to pay all of the past players for using their likeness.

There has to be rules for university alumni paying current players.

With whose money? The university's? Some fund set up by the NCAA? Private donations?

Well I heard conflicting stuff that EA didn't want to pay the players too. He'll every party is to blame for the games demise.

Bryce Petty
Shawn Oakman
Spencers Drango

>Some fund set up by the NCAA?

Sure.

You can pay them what they're worth, just like schools currently pay their student researchers, student dining hall workers, and others. Just drop student athlete title and make it a student job like those. Pay them *and* offer decreased costs of tuition.

It's what my school does for people who work for them. A second year physics student or someone who wants to work in admissions can basically get paid to go to school if they agree to do some lab work, and it's really only a few extra hours out of their week. Basically do this, drop the number of hours players are required to be at work a week, and decrease their tuition. Now it's equal to all the other jobs students are offered on campus. It's just up to the student themselves to seize the opportunity and get paid.

They need to separate major college sports from the institutions, the NCAA needs to be blown up. Universities can still make money off the teams, and the teams still play on campus. But they should be considered semi-pro/pro leagues that students and non-students alike can try out for. sports scholarships would be massively reduced, gambling would still exist, colleges and ADs will still make money, and players will make money as well. It's a win win for all sides.

Rather than being seen as collegiate leagues, they will be treated as minor/developmental leagues for professional sports that are sponsored/branded by colleges. It's not the perfect system, but it makes far more sense than the shit system they have right now.

Sam Ukwuachu

>One and Done rule was created to "protect" College BBall
>Money getting thrown around to players & their families anyway

The NBA should just cut out the middleman and say fuck it at this point.

Maybe we should take a clue on what Canuckistan's doing with their major junior system. The kids get to play in a professional-like structure and get paid a stipend every couple weeks. The NHL gets to scout the kids as prospects and as for the kids who don't make the grade, they are required by the league's mandate to go to college which the league, in turn, pays for in part.

no the answer is just separate sports from the schools

we've all known that for years and it was reinforced when Penn State was allowed to keep their football team. If a school that covered for a pedophile rapist for 20 years is still allowed to compete paying some kids is nothing.

I didn't mean influential in graduating superstar players, I meant in local/state government, affairs, and alumni.

If you pay students, they become employees. You fire and hire. You don't recruit and cut. Now they'll need employee rights. I agree that student athletes should get paid but it's a dangerous line.

Love this answer.

This opens a whole new can of worms lol

>With whose money?

Uhh with the billions of dollars college football/basketball generates??

um what the heck? that money is only for the school president's own pockets ok?!

They've been actively trying to kill Syracuse for almost a decade now.

The arena deal was shit for the city, but it was the city's fault. UofL was going to build an on-campus arena, the city enticed them into the arena deal by all the stipulations. Fair otherwise

Obviously star players at Alabama will get more than those at Morehead St. But we must also account for Title IX forcing universities to pay for the female athletes as well. And who will be there to decide which sports get paid and which don't? Do schools also have to ask for more booster money and/or tuition increases to pay for the facility upkeep as well? Just asking for more details.

EA shouldn't have made them based on real guys (#5 at USC is obviously Reggie Bush). Just have it randomly generated with users able to download/edit real rosters if they want

>all these niggers wanting these fucking fags to be paid
>despite free education, housing, whores, food, amd everything else
>butbut they cant certain degree wothout someone bitching
Who give a shit most of these students weren't planning to become doc or lawyers.

Nevertheless, they should get paid if they signed a sponsors.

Otherwise fuck off, they are like the welfare queen of the universities

>3. It's ridiculous the NFL and NBA get to use these leagues as free training grounds
That isn't what they're getting out of the deal. The NFL and NBA could train players much better than what the NCAA allows or in the NBA's case they could just use Europe/China instead.

they're welfare queens that want to be paid like superstars on top of it

they can all get bent. you want real money, get in the the fucking league first

Must have walked in on your girlfriend getting gangraped by some of these welfare queens. Sorry you had to see that.

This guy better be next.

Entire Arizona program has been shady since the late 80's. I know for a fact that Chris Mills back in the day was paid $50k under the table through his Aunt.

Bet Trier got some $. Plus he's a future tranny. Screencap this.

Future tranny.
My sides.

Look up his and rich rod's extensions. They both have equity in some booster's company, including a vesting period.

Thank you user. Wondered why Rich Rod was sticking around the dung pile program and not bouncing like the little mattress hopping bitch he is.

It would be in no one's benefit to have a development football league for 18 year old kids. It would be an absolute shit product compared to the NCAA. How would that even work? Who would fund those teams? THe pros? Then you're going to have a farm system where their using draft picks on HS kids that 95% never pan out?

...

How is this not a bigger deal here? Did the yuropoors and aussies and janitors scare people away?

>I'm still trying to figure out why the FBI cared enough to investigate.

they didn't. they arrested a financial advisor on totally unrelated charges, and he told the fbi about all this college shoe shit. they offered him a deal if he became an informant. they've got recordings, call logs, videos of money changing hands, the whole bit.

Considering concussionball is the highest level of education most of them get, they should be paying course fees for it.

Alabama was caught before. Saban almost was caught when Luther Davis paid DJ Fluker at Alabama. Only a matter of time.

NCAA is gonna let it all slide since Oregon just proved that money doesn't buy championships

Didn't read any comments. A bookie friendo attended to the University of Illinois circa mid 70's. All of the BB players drove new Lincolns from a local dealership. Hmmm.

The big thread happened yesterday when it was fresh. The acts themselves aren't surprising. It's the FBI and what they have that are.

the NCAA needs to collapse and be replaced by an NFL minor league.

sports don't belong on college campuses. i had to pay for my tuition while these future CTE candidates took up seats for free.

fuck you if you watch this shit

It's quite simple, some small town college got butt blasted because they kept losing recruits to bigger schools and snitched since nobody wants to play for their school

After everything Pitino did this is how you repay him? Pathetic

student athletes are the army welfare queens of higher education, fuck them and their entitlement. College sports above the club level should be abolished.

I know you wanna shitpost, but you could just post the fact the snitch was a financial advisor.
