Woah.

What radio stations are you listening to?

友達に聞いたが、わからなかった
>I asked my friend but he didn't know

is this correct?

大丈夫だと思う。

>Gochiusa link is dead
I didn't want to study anyways

bump

知らなかった is more natural here.

分からなかった works too, but it would mean 'I still don't understand'.

Is it even possible for a foreigner to learn Japanese?

Would going through genki 1/2 (quickly) a waste of time if I've already finished TK and can comprehend things like NHK Easy News with about 1.5k vocab? I can't imagine a few dozen pages could sum up ~800 pages of a textbook and the audio stuff alongside seems like it might be useful.

The main wall for me for just reading native stuff is my limited vocab which I can't do anything about except do my daily anki reps for another year or so. I usually can't be bothered reading when I have to look up every other word so I thought I'd try to do something else at least.

Finally found a way to count my NameDeck kanji!

735 kanji from 972 different names, with 149 non-jouyou kanji (109 jinmeiyou).

I would still have to compare which ones differ from my main vocab deck to see how many new kanji that amounts to, but it definitely is a slow process.

I have so far scraped 70 out of 169 series from my MAL anime and manga lists.

Actually, I found a way.

So my main deck has 2379 kanji, and together with the NameDeck it goes up to 2511 kanji, meaning 132 out of the 149 non-jouyou kanji seen so far were new ones.

Looks way more promising than I thought! But it's still a rather small amount for almost 2 months worth of name-mining, I will start to mine jinmeiyou words in September in parallel, else I won't be able to learn all of them by the end of this year. Will still mine names, though, they are pretty fast to review.

Pretty much. Spending more time on basics isn't that useful. The listening might be helpful though. If you need something to do with your additional, non-vocab time, you could try splitting the genki dialogue files into sentence length files and making anki cards from them. Or just pick some japanese songs, mine the vocab from them, and then listen to the songs a lot. Basically just find some way to spend the rest of your time on comprehensible listening.

友達に訊いたけど、知らなかった

ask:訊く/尋ねる/問う/頼む
hear:聞く
listen:聴く

聞く is used for ask pretty much all the time

別にaskに「聞く」を用いても間違いではないです。
そもそも、「訊く」は常用漢字にはないので「訊く」の意味も「聞く」を用いる場合が多い。
他にも「それは~という」の「いう」は「云う」ですが、同様に「言う」を使うのも間違いとはされません。
多分に好みの問題でしょう。

>mfw my anki reps jump up 40 cards higher than I've seen them go before

Does the average moonspeaker recognize words like 彷徨う 喧嘩 躊躇 when they arent written in kana?
I play mobage that just loves to throw somewhat obscure kanji into the story dialogue and it rustles my jimmies
Ive also seen 殲滅 quite alot but that was easy to remember seen as its reading and meaning are similar to 全滅 , so I just remember it as 滅 proceeded by a cancerous looking kanji

I see 喧嘩 quite often in VNs. Can't say the same for others, they surely lean more to kana.

It just takes dedication and practice!

It is for people with a brain. Unsurprisingly, most animu fags can't do it.

I can't understand them tho

ORICON

Nigger I've seen 彷徨う like maybe three or four times in light novels + one anki card, and I could comprehend it in your post instantly.

彷徨く
