Can someone please explain the hype behind K-pop. It literally sounds like American Pop in Korean. As shit as most J-Pop is, at least I can give it credit for having a unique sound. I cant say the same for this shit.

yellow fever

Bunch of fags that have retarded brains. Nothing of worth in that genre.

Plastic men and women

the S.K. government pushes it

as a non-american I just strongly dislike the negrophilia and weird jewish social engineering tendencies of western pop

just my opinion of course haha

I think the biggest appeal is the high production value, from the cinematography, to the dances, to the sets and outfits, everything is this weirdly formulaic and calculated process which I think it's fun to look at but the fans are the worst, specially the ones from South Korea and South East Asia.

im not sure if id rather have the jew or the yellow jew controlling the media

because korea is walmart japan and most people living on earth right now are walmart shopping droolie retards

i cannot stand the rampant korea fever cancer that's been spreading all over the internet. it's so random too, like for the past 3 decades there were weaboos who were (rightfully) obsessed with the superior japs and all of a sudden in 2015 every fat unattractive preteen on twitter and tumblr just decided to suck korean dick

The yellow jew any day of the week.

this
there's nothing to be a "koreaboo" about, japan has a cool history and unique culture from their circumstances. korea's just diet japan, their history is mostly getting fucked by china or japan then getting fucked by america. what the fuck do they have that's interesting that china or japan dont have?

Fuck you, Korea shits all over Japan and commie land.

As cringe as Video Games, J-Pop, and Anime is, you cant deny that all this shit were game changers. The South Korean cocksucking thats recently started happening is the most stupid and random shit ive ever seen. It doesnt even make fucking sense

Dude pretty much everything you can point to about Korea's that's interesting Japan or China have.

On Sup Forums its mainly waifu fags, however I've read articles of even Korean fans being really nuts. Like grown women fighting over their favorite kpop groups and calling out kpop group members.

Average listener: Its an alternative to western music.

Korea pushes the music to promote tourism.

Are you Japanese supremacist? Koreaphobe? Why do you hate Korea so much?

Well the Korean fans being nuts over famous Korean people makes sense. It's every other country being obsessed with famous korean people that doesnt.

>Korea pushes the music to promote tourism.
Gonna be honest, I love Kpop but I'm never going to South Korea, it's a country that advanced too quickly so they still have those third-world mannerisms you'd see in like Malaysia and awful driving like in rural China.

Japan had a much more steady modernization which makes life there a lot more pleasant.

This. And a lot of it is produced by Western artists, so it's not surprising it sounds similar to Western pop. For example "Red Flavor" was originally made for the group Little Mix. With that said, there are things about K-Pop that I hear much more frequently that I don't get from Western pop, but I don't listen to that much Western pop anyways. A lot of the larger groups are able to sequence and layer vocals in ways that you can't really get anymore because a lot of Western artists are solo. But some of the bubblegum stuff is pretty distinct that you'd never hear from Western artists (e.g., "LIKEY" or "Russian Roulette"). And if you're actually interested and not just shitposting for the sake of it, you can watch some of the Classical Musicians React to K-Pop videos to understand some of the music theory and how there are certain tropes and stylistic differences in K-Pop.

have you ever seen chinese pop?

Japan: Samurai, karate, anime, classic films, a diverse range of music besides pop music but even the pop music is pure kino, pioneers in the electronic genre, pioneers in video games.

Korea: Littrly a capitalist hellscape, plastic surgery, only seems to make formulaic corporate pop music that somehow makes western pop music look authentic, combines the worst aspects of the west and the east and turns it into some disgusting corporate factory. World would be better off if best kores (the actual good korea) nuked it

Attached: japan ww2.jpg (342x500, 50K)

why do they all get surgery and wear makeup to look exactly the same

You forget how Samsung has beaten Sony in the electronics war. Korea economy has grown rapidly which allows people there to pursue jobs as entertainers. All the countries that have had any major media influence have been countries with top economies. The rise of Korean entertainment is a sign of Korea's economic prosperity. Its not some voodoo magic thing going on.

Everyone's trying to look like natural beauty Han Ga In.

I think what kills it for me is the culture around it, the obsessive fans, the knetz who make a big deal out of the pettiest of things, the way companies overwork idols, the slave contracts. I don't understand how the UN hasn't stepped in and called for investigations of human rights violations.

korea reminds me of this one twilight zone episode called Number 12 Looks Just Like You.

I think it would be impossible for korea to produce a musician that was just ugly or disgusting or grungey. Fucking cobain would have so much soul compared to these asian ant people

If youre a fan of kpop, theres literally nothing you can say about jpop.

It is what it is. The system in Korea produces talent much differently than how Japan does. The producer from m-flo talks about some of the historical reasons why that is, and also how Japan's musicians and populace can be lacking because of it.

japantimes.co.jp/culture/2015/10/02/music/m-flos-taku-takahashi-talks-japans-music-scene-k-pop-controversial-tweet/#.VhCV0PlVikr

why

yeah, kpop's bad but jpop is a lot worse.

they all look the same
all act the same
all make the same kind of music

If you dont have autism i think that sort of thing would disgust you, just stupid fucking conformity

Its also based they defend Japan based on emotions. Like these autists forget they are two different countries. Japan has been economically stable for several years allowing the arts to flourish.

You can find worse shit in Japanese music, like old Japanese men worshiping 12yr old idol groups.

American Cultural Victory

It's definitely better than American pop, more unique and the vocal harmonies are a nice touch. Most of it for me is the cute girls though, to be honest, I only really listen to metal

Are there any korean artists worth checking out or it's just a land filled with talentless hacks?

Attached: 1517975618034.jpg (250x228, 7K)

The only talented kpop group atm is Mamamoo, they compose a lot of their own music (mainly because their parent company is very small so it's obvious they don't have the budget to get in touch with famous producers.) they choreograph their dances, and actually sing live.

A lot of people hate them because they're not conventionally attractive and sing about empowerment.

literally this

i don't want to sound like a edgy commie teen but this is what i hate about capitalism. korea is literally shitting out boy bands and slapping filters over them to appeal to massive amounts of boring teen girls all over the world and it's annoying how they're allowed to get away with it

>and all of a sudden in 2015

just a theory that has already been talked about regarding the timing especially since Psy broke into the western mainstream.

But it's curious that what is happening in the West in terms of entertainment especially the music industry is also happening now in Kpop. By that I mean satanic stuff and innuendos (gestures, symbols, IDOL worship, etc) that depict it. The difference between the West and Kpop is that Western "artists" brainwash those in the US who pander exclusively to their own. While Kpop's influence is global.

if you believe in the notion that "the elite" want to speed up a One-World-Government, what better way to speed up that process than through art or music since it has no language barriers and the "cooler" the act, the faster and more convenient way to brainwash the masses without them knowing. Thereby making it easier to have an obedient world population in the billions to control.

before you watch the following ask yourselves why all of a sudden we are being forced into transgenderism, politically correct pronoun identification or forced diversity not just in American but Europe. Asia's own forced diversity may be from the genre of Kpop itself. All this never surfaced before 2015 or at least before Psy entered western mainstream. But since 2015, the planet is now engulfed in these Cultural Marxists ideas.

lol, kys

Go to sleep, Alex.

How many strong or truly unique vocalists does Japan have anymore? There's Shiina Ringo and Utada that are still relevant, but the others have pretty much disappeared.

Red Velvet's The Perfect Red Velvet is probably my favorite K-Pop record. Here's the thing some of you don't understand. You might enjoy it if you want 90s/early 00s R&B, although "I Look" is a future bass-inspired song.

Not everything is supposed to be compared the same way. You're not going to find a Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen in K-Pop, at least not right now. You can listen to different styles and artists to look for distinct things that you enjoy. I'm not exactly going to J-Pop to find strong R&B groups. If I want some math rock or shoegaze-inspired stuff, I can listen to tricot or Kinoko Teikoku.

And for the most part, K-Pop is not about albums. It's definitely single and EP driven, as well as all the social stuff that's attached. If you want something more along the lines of what Sup Forums might like, there's the band Se So Neon that makes psych rock/pop stuff. Their EP is fairly strong.

there is just something so bland and corporate and sterile about korean pop music.

Maybe its more obvious because im on the outside looking in.

Im not really a fan of pop music in general. When i was growing up rock music was still going. And japan was full on in their funding of cool japan. The modern age fucking disgusts me. Trap rap and corporate gook pop.

I dont think pop music is a total evil. Every now and then there is that one guy who just makes you go "oh, i get it, yeah, pop music can be good"

Pic related.

japan has concept of wabisabi

>In traditional Japanese aesthetics, Wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.[2] The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".[3] It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence (三法印 sanbōin), specifically impermanence (無常 mujō), suffering (苦 ku) and emptiness or absence of self-nature (空 kū).

ice cream truck is shit

Both, jpop and kpop, are based on idol culture. Music is just one aspect of their entertainment.
Take a look on groups like AKB48 and Nogizaka46 or Twice and BTS: They all use the same formula: fan clubs, reality shows, fan meetings, variety shows, web series, premium goods, merchandising, etc.

Ultimately, kpop and jpop are the same shit with one difference: there are more kpop groups who pander to women.

Women are more profitable to have as primary consumers

japanese men buy a lot more cds than korean girls

Image is a big part of it. The female K-Pop singers are adorable

The style is derivative af too. Stealing too much from western streetwear. I get Asians staring me down and shit, trying to take notes while their girls are admiring.

I like these artists a lot
m.youtube.com/watch?v=A-wYhxUxFFc
m.youtube.com/watch?v=BObZgbfxnRo
m.youtube.com/watch?v=fo_AIttSOGU

No, not in this sense they aren't. K-pop had a huge wave from 2007 to 2012 and then those girls stopped buying (if you know anything about the music industry, this five year cycle with young girls is typical, even occurring to the Beatles and the Stones), which is why k-pop needs to appeal to an international audience now.

While normal men would never do this and are less profitable as an audience than women, otaku have bought every pile of shit from AKB since 2005 without any failure. Some of them even have jobs just to pay for AKB shit. The only time Japanese pop was female audience-driven was from 1995 to 2003

American pop+PC Music= K-pop

this is the answer, fuck off and understand

Samurai: random thugs who never followed bushido (that came later in the Tokugawa era when war was less common and samurai were basically useless)
Karate: stolen from Okinawa (not Japanese)
Anime: copied Disney (admitted by Osamu Tezuka)
Classic films: I'll allow this - Akira Kurosawa and Ozu were masters in the field
Diverse range of music: True - but they've got nothing that great.
Pioneers in electronics: To pioneer = be first. They got their tech from the west.
Pioneers in video games - same thing. Video games arose in the west.
T. Korean who hates Japan

you will never understand kpop. it is far above and beyond you.

the concept of "good music" is a meme only children concern themselves with. even jazz has become generic from a modern point of view. kpop on the other hand trancends the limitation of pure music and reaches into every corner of what makes a human being.
yes, it offers so much more than just the music itself.
it offers direction. direction you dont have.
while you post on Sup Forums asking "what does Sup Forums think of xyz?" or looking for the latest music and trends, jump from genre to genre, because the last thing you listened to starts loosing its edge, kpoppers still have a firm direction they follow. they're not confused like you. they're not insecure like you. they dont have to "look" anymore. they found. they are adults driving down a secure road in a suv made of absolute wholesomeness, where you are a child, marvelling at the most basic trees along the way, drifting from one thing to the next with your limited attention span.

kpop truly is the last stage of the music lover. the warm place a wanderer has to come home to after his lifelong ventures. a cozy fireplace, mantled with bricks made out of bops and bangers. kpop is truly the pinncacle of man made music.

that's pretty much it. kpop is entertainment first. its not just music, but fandom, variety shows, performances and all that shit.

and kpop really embraces that in their entertainment. fans are openly talking about displayed personalities that fit their idols and what producers they should get music from.

kpop exploded in 2009 newfags. if you were here you'd definitely remember the myriad of threads
>a cool history
are you 12?

I'm pretty sure K-Pop is a lot older than PC Music

K-pop is south Korean Propaganda to promote neo capitalism.

Are the people in this ""band"" even human?

They are so plastic that it's disgusting. I live in Korea and its alarming how much influence these groups have on the younger generation.

Attached: Wanna-One1.jpg (2048x1365, 338K)

Worst case of "all rook same" I've ever seen.

The thing I don't like about Kpop is how strongly it promotes waifus to single lonely people. The idols completely seduce fans and make them fall in love, while pretending that they're all innocent virgins while they're getting railed by Chads on the regular. People get so attached and then it ends with a collision when it turns out that they're actually dating, which people have actually killed themselves over. Obviously it's partly the fans fault for allowing themselves to get that attached, but idols are like sirens that seduce their fans, emotionally manipulate them, then take their time and their money. It's the company's fault, not the idols, but it is evil and in many ways analogous to a heroin dealer.

Because it's fun and the girls are pretty.
I'd listen to more JPop too if the music wasn't awful most of the time and the girls would get their fucking teeth fixed

youtube.com/watch?v=c7rCyll5AeY

Japan is better in every way. PLEASE END WORST KOREA, KIMMY.

this is a western and japanese pop hybrid, bro

fuck korea. japan has a much more glorious history and culture.

Jpop is honestly terrible compared to Kpop. That's why Twice has completely taken over Japan, because their pop just doesn't compete at all. I'm pretty sure Japan did to idol culture first though but the music isn't even close to comparable.

I dunno, man. Sure, Korea did literally nothing but get annexed over and over again for hundreds of years but the 'glorious nippon' era ended with the Japanese Army committing incredibly evil war crimes before getting the shit firebombed out of their cities and getting used as a live demonstration ground for nuclear weapons. Doesn't seem all that badass to me

The Imperial Japanese Army were warriors who were liberating Asia from whitey. So-called War crimes are distortions by nationalists in Korea and China to serve their own agenda. Get your facts straight.

Korea would be nothing today if Japan didn't drag them out of the stone age all the way into the modern era. The so-called colonization of Korea was one of the most altruistic rescue operations that one country ever did for another. And now the Koreans pay Japan back with lies and false history.

It's pop like it was back then, back when it was all about dance videos and catchy music, instead of doing boring pretentious faux-deep shit like the US is doing now.
Also yellow fever.

>Jpop is honestly terrible compared to Kpop. That's why Twice has completely taken over Japan, because their pop just doesn't compete at all. I'm pretty sure Japan did to idol culture first though but the music isn't even close to comparable.

I remember the beginning and end where Rod said to imagine it was the year 2000.
At the end he said, while it is improbable, let us hesitate to say impossible.

Both Korea's are dystopic, main difference is one is partly from jewish influence... oh wait. no.
