Today I present to you "Tears of a Trap God" by Gucci Mane, the greatest trap record that never was.
Gucci Mane is an extraordinary talent, yet he's hardly ever produced a consistently "great" record. It seems like since his release from prison in 2016, he's lost a great deal of the charisma that made him such a special performer at the peak of his powers (arguably, that's the 2012-2013 "melted flow" period).
During his prison stint he managed to release around 30 full length projects of archival material from that very era when he spent days in the studio sipping lean and recording non-stop freestyles. There's no doubt that that material is very hit-and-miss, so I wanted to compile the ultimate collection of gems from that "dark era" that would also "flow" like a real album.
With 11 tracks of pure killer, I kept it tight and concentrated, and gave it the very appropriate title "Tears of a Trap God", since most of the songs here are of a romantic, emotional variety (something that Gucci is so great at, yet so underappreciated).
I've made this thread before, and some anons expressed interest in further installments of curated Gucci, so I have created a second compilation of great songs from Gucci Mane's "dark period", called "Dreams of a Trap God".
This one is not that much of a sad mixtape, but a dreamy one. Hypnotic beats, loopy flows, and overflowing charisma of the endlessly listenable baritone of Gucci Mane at his most emotional.
